"I want a high paying career" ... don't we all!?
Follow your heart...you are more likely to be successful doing something you are passionate about.

Glen Said:

careers, careers... so many to choose from but which one is right for me?

We Answered:

Hmm well you seem somewhat similar to me in personality and school. I graduated with a degree in Advertising and Public Relations. Marketing is a very similar major. I think something similar to these fields/industries may be a good fit for you.

Since graduating from college with my degree, I've started my career in internet marketing. I love it, love my job, love my bosses, couldn't be happier. :) Good luck, you'll find your way.

If you want to earn in excess of $300K per year, you'll need to be either a private doctor who does something lucrative like plastic surgery, or invent some medical device that saves thousands of people's lives. $300K a year is really a high salary, and very few people earn that much--especially scientists.

To be a pilot, you need to take flying lessons--this can cost you about $2000 or more for your initial set, and that much or more afterwards as you gain flight hours. Almost any airport has places that teach flying. Check out those in your area and compare prices.

Another way is to join the military as an officer. Enlisted people do not fly planes--they CLEAN them, work on them, or maintain them. But only officers fly them. You will need to be a college student or grad, join either the Navy, Army, Air Force or Marine Corps, and get an aviation contract--as a pilot. The only service that absolutely guarantees you will get PILOT training is the Marine Corps--the rest only give you the opportunity to COMPETE for slots as pilots, if you're accepted--but they do not guarantee pilot training. The Marine Corps' program is called the PLC program. You will need good vision--usually it must be 20/20 without any corrective lenses, and without having had vision surgery. (these requirements vary). You will need to take and pass an aviation selection test (written) and will need to compete for the opportunity to be selected for the program.

The military is the best way to get into a job as a pilot for a commercial airline. The airlines also have their own "boot camps" for pilots--but these are highly selective. You can also work for a smaller company running freight until you gain enough flight hours to qualify to apply at a commercial airline.

It sounds from your criteria that you are looking for a military career--but your salary range is way out of line for the military, and there aren't any other jobs I can think of that would provide that sort of money for the same type of job. As a military pilot, you might earn as much as $65K per year--but that's only after you've been in a while, and have been trained completely; you'd need about 6-10 years of service before reaching that level. Commercial pilots don't earn much more, and their jobs are not as secure.
