should a Massage Therapist take a Complementary and Alternative Medicine course? We Answered:
Yes it is a very good Idea. It is always wise to know as much as possible this way you can give your patients some ideas of what else will help them besides the massage. as yes massages help but usually they will need something more. I Always advise to be qualified in at least two or three Fields.Patricia Said:
Would it be fair to describe courses in alternative medicine as qualifications in memorising nonsense? We Answered:
Certainly things like homeopathy and reiki teach a huge amount of mystical and unsubstantiated nonsense. How much of this you have to remember is debatable, if you forget it all then it makes no difference to the 'treatment'.With modern epidemiology, anything that makes a measurable difference (such as handwashing) is quickly and easily established. There's no need to believe in nonsense when we now have the methods necessary to test it.
Edit: Strange that alties make such a huge effort to keep physiology, physics and chemistry OUT of their posts, when skeptics use it all the time? Simple fact is that alties have no idea what science is, because they're simply not taught it.
Edit2: "But whatever. We can agree to disagree. I'd just ask for you all to respect others in the Alternative Medicine Answer's section."
Why would anyone give respect to such a ridiculous viewpoint? This is the "Common Ground Fallacy"
Person X says "I believe that horses can fly"
Person Y says "No they don't, that's silly"
Person X says "Ok, shall we then agree that only some horses can fly? That would be fair wouldn't it?"
When clearly it's not fair, accurate or even possible!
Without these fallacious viewpoints, alt med is nothing. It might fool the masses but not those with any kind of basic scientific education.
Alicia Said:
Why do you use alternative medicine? We Answered:
I don't use it.It's only alternative because it hasn't been proven to work, or it has been proven not to work.
Or side effects, risks, interactions and contradictions aren't established.
Or its a scam - like detox footpads, ear candles, crystal healing energy or chakra balancing.
Or it's downright dangerous like colloidal silver.
Or its complete and absolute BS quackery like homeopathy.
Or you have to invoke the supernatural to explain it.
Or promoters use pseudoscience, anecdotes or conspiracy theories to sell it.
Yes there are some concerns with 'mainstream' - but one must question everything and when it comes down to health care, I'm sticking with evidence based medicine and properly trained health care professionals.

What alternative courses can i take to get into the medicine course in any university in the united kingdom? ?We Answered:
Please go and check this out on UCAS. I believe that certain departments of medicine offer access courses for the over 21s. (we do at Liverpool Uni)as to changing that is unlikely at any Uni.
All this will be dependant on your age, experience, course grades etc.
