Alternative Medicine For Adhd

Marian Said:

Are there any effective alternative medicines for ADD/ADHD?

We Answered:

Hi Nick,

The first thing you need to consider is eliminating iodized salt and switching to something organic, like Kelp, as your source of iodine. Buy non-iodized sea salt instead.

Iodized salt, is from potassium iodide, the body just doesn't process it the same way as organic iodine. Further, potassium iodide, can cause this fuzziness and inability to concentrate that is commonly called "ADD." This may not be your problem, but it's an easy thing to find out, inexpensive and without any drugs or risks.

When I made this change my ADD like symptoms disappeared, I take encapsulated seaweed called Sea Vegg which contains organic iodine.

Whats are some Alternative Medicine- vitamins or herbs for treating ADHD?

We Answered:

Start drinking 16 oz of water 3 - 4 times a day; quit eating/drinking any sugar and caffeine; start taking a good vitamin B complex and try to exercise routinely. The water and the vitamin B will help to level out your energy levels and will help with the focusing problem, BIG TIME! If you stop your caffeine and sugar you will start feeling more level and you will also be able to retain more of what you learn. And exercising is not just healthy for the body but it is fantastic for the mind.

Alternative medicine for adhd at home remedies?

We Answered:

People with ADHD have been scientifically proven to lack certain nutrients. The most common are the fatty acids which you can find, for example, in fish oils, and the minerals zinc, magnesium and iron.
Diet is also of prime importance, and serious culprits are sugary foods and drinks, processed foods with additives and colourings and foods containing caffeine. Finally, exercise is vitally important.
If you can find a good medical herbalist there are some very effective herbal remedies too.
It is worth noting that the biggest ever study on ADHD drugs carried out in Oregon University, in which 27 drugs were studied and 2,287 previous were analysed, resulted in a 731 page report which concluded that there was no evidence as to the long term safety of the drugs and no evidence that they are actually effective or that any one is safer than any other.
Of course, if they make billions of dollars, who cares?

Is there an alternative herbal remedy to treat ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)?

We Answered:

Homeopathy offers an alternative to Ritalin. The homeopathic holistic approach examines the symptoms of each part of the person, and the conditions around those symptoms, and tries to find correlation or meaning in the inter-relationship of those symptoms. A homeopathic remedy is found that covers the unique characteristics of the child. Homeopathic substances are derived from all of the botanical kingdoms; they may be plant, mineral, metal or animal substances, or they may be ‘imponderables’ such as moonlight, sunlight, magnetism. There is no single cause for ADHD; if we take a holistic perspective and examine each child as an individual, we find that many different factors are involved in this disease, and that each child manifests an individual set of symptoms. The complexity of the homeopathic medical chest of over 4000 remedies allows every child to be treated with the remedy that best suits their individual symptom complexes. It is, therefore, necessary to visit a Registered Homeopath so your nephew can be assessed and monitored, rather than just purchasing herbal treatments over the counter. If you would like to find out who your local Registered Homeopath is, please contact The Society of Homeopaths at: www.homeopathy-soh.org
The website below is worth a visit, as it contains a lot of information. I do hope this will be of some help to your nephew and his family.

Does anyone know of a good alternative to ADHD medicines?

We Answered:

Hi, Kelly! I am a Reiki practitioner and an Herbalist, and a mom of 2 boys who have ADHD, one of whom was agressive - much, much less now.
I agree with the Oatstraw (Aveena Sativa) and the dietary recommendations. Since there is very little way to stop all preservatives (school lunch, parties, etc) I also give my boys Flax Seed Oil as it has been proven effective as a blood cleanser. It also has the Omega 3 fatty acids that people with neurological problems are deficient in. Cinnamon is wonderful also...it helps keep their blood sugar stable, and helps metabolize any extra sugar. Other than that, I just make sure their multivitamin is high in B, C and Zinc as those are deficiencies in People with ADHD as well.

I am at windstarhealing.com if you have any questions. Good luck!

Looking for help with alternative to meds for adhd 3 year old?

We Answered:

Poor kid. He's doing the best he can. Don't let your frustration about his actions affect your feelings for him. He is an innocent kid.

I would say he needs more love and attention, less TV, and more outside time. Make a schedule and follow it, where he is awakened and fed at the same time. He needs to have a nap time in the mid-morning and after lunch.

He needs to have activities that challenge his intellect. No TV, at least limit - passive entertainment is NOT what he needs. That's creating a couch potato. He needs to try physical activies like sports and building or creating things.
Reward him for positive things that he does, don't punish him but for negative reinforcement, a form of time-out is helpful.

Above all, he needs love. Through attention, praise, and fun, he needs to know that you love him. Day care can be one of the worst things for a toddler. Find a provider who can give him individual attention and have love for him, although a professional love, not personal, unconditional positive regard is what children are craving today - the lack of which is producing the generation of delinquents that we are seeing.
