A mucolytic like Mucinex and lots of fluids, inhaling the steam in a hot shower and a cold mist vaporizer. You're right that antibiotics won't help because they're not used to treat viral infections.Someone suggested an odd version of positioning and percussion, used to loosen congested fluid in the lung lobes. Don't bother with this. Unless you're trained in it, you'll just get a sore back and you'd need another person to admninister it for you anyway. And antibiotics are used to treat ONLY bacterial infections not "infection" because infections can be viral as well as bacterial. Antibiotics are NOT used to treat influenza, this is a respiratory viral infection.

these are often indicative of a viral illness -one that isn't treated with antibiotics. treat the symptoms -advil/tylenol for pain, lots of fluids, and monitor fever. if fever is greater than 102.9 and isn't relieved by meds, see a doctor as the infection may have become bacterial.Darren Said:
