Dog Ear Infection Medicine

Darrell Said:

My dog has an ear infection and any time i get near her to put her medicine in she snips at me. advice?

We Answered:

I think the best thing to do is having to sacrafice a bad day between you and your dog for the sake of her ear.

I have a german shepherd who's been my best friend since I was a young boy and we may have to put her down because of her ear mite infection. We've been going through the same thing for over a year and now it's gotten so bad she has gangreen.

Please spare your dog the pain and perhaps the same fate that mine is facing. You can't let her ear get worse or else she will have an internal infection like my dog does and I know how much dog owner hate putting their dogs to sleep.

I'm on the search for a better treatment because I don't believe that this is the best treatment but at least prevent your dog from getting worse. It's worth getting in a fight.

My dog has an ear infection, i have medicine and wash to give her and she WILL NOT HAVE IT?

Sometimes you just have to make them behave. (Easier said than done, I know!!) You can use the leg of a pair of pantyhose. Wrap it twice around her muzzle then loop it back up behind her ears and tie it fairly tight around the back of her neck.
I hope we all understand here that you are not trying to be mean, because I know first hand how hard it can be when they don't want to cooperate. I suggest trying to be calm, do not talk to her (this only reinforces her behavior at that moment), put the muzzle on her, do what you need to do, probably with your husband holding her and you doing the treating. Remove the muzzle and give her a treat.
It is a negative experience, I don't see exactly how to make it too positive when you are doing something that is painful. Ear infections are nasty.
Do not let her win, it just makes it all the harder next time you need to treat. She doesn't have to like it but she will eventually learn to behave and accept it. Floppy eared breeds are notorious for ear problems so you can probably look forward to a lifetime of this off and on.
Hang in there, I know it is hard but it will get better.
Also, I might suggest talking with your vet about the situation. They may have some other suggestions for you. Best of luck to you and your girl!

Keith Said:

Do I get medicine for an ear infection for my dog at the vet, or can I get at Pet Smart?

We Answered:

I would defintely go with the vet... the stuff they sell at petsmart aint worth a crap...

Brett Said:

My dog has an inner ear infection What medicine can I buy without a prescription. ?

We Answered:

I would be reluctant to treat this without seeing a vet. There might be ear mites, a tick or other foreign substance in the dog's ear. S/he could loose his/her hearing and balance, permanently.

However, this sounds like a good product: Echo Gold, contains Echinacea, Myrrh, Goldenseal, Chamomile & Tea Tree oil. Might be worth a try. Check it out: http://www.petwellbeing.com/dog-ear-infe…

Here's an article describing signs and causes of ear infection in dogs: http://pethealth.petwellbeing.com/wiki/D…

There's an ear oil for kids called Wally's Ear Oil that contains Echinacea, Mullein & Garlic & works really well. Health food stores have it.

Ellen Said:

can I buy an over counter medicine for my dog ear infection?

We Answered:

yes you can buy... but get your dog checked once... the vet will be the right person to assist the correct medicine for the ear infection....
