Ear Infection Medicine

Lillian Said:

Is there any medicine that you can get over the counter for an ear infection for babies?

We Answered:

This is your regular pediatrician? If you have a regular doctor, he will get your child in the same day, or the next. (Or if he won't, it's time to look for a new doctor.) I've NEVER had to wait 2 months to get my child in for illness. They've always squeezed her in that day.

If you just cold-called a random doctor from the phone-book then no, she doesn't have to see you right away.

There are no OTC antibiotics to treat an ear infection, and no way to diagnose it yourself. You can give Tylenol/Ibuprofen for the pain, but he does need to be checked by a doctor.

Options:
1. Take him to the ER.
2. Take him to a walk in clinic/doc-in-the-box.
3. If your community has a public health clinic, try taking him there.

And then find a regular doctor with whom you can establish a doctor-patient relationship.

Rita Said:

Is it good that my ear infection hurts now that I have medicine?

We Answered:

Your inner ear is inflamed because your immune system is now targeting the infection. It would have happened sooner or later. I think it's just a coincidence, however I'd check with the doctor again about it if it's really painful.

Ear Infection Medicine for Poodles?

We Answered:

You won't be able to diagnose the source of the infection by looking at the ears or just by watching the dog scratch and you can't really treat prophylactically without knowing the source of the problem. Typical ear infections can be bacterial or yeast based, or caused by mites or any combination of the three.

Some of the medications to treat infections are available on through your vet because they contain steriods, which should never be given without medical supervision.

My dog has an ear infection and his medicine won't be in until tomorrow?

We Answered:

My dog always got ear infections. What i did was bathed his ear with warm salty water....or i diluted some savlon/dettol in warm water and cleaned his ear out with the diluted solution and some tissue/cotton wool.

It really helped my dog.

Clarence Said:

How do i help relieve an infant ear infection when medicine does not work?

We Answered:

If it is a true ear infection, the amoxicillin should help relieve the pain in about 2 days. Certainly a pain reliever like tylenol can help. There are also prescription ear drops that can help the pain. Some people like to use a warm compress over the ear and report this to help. Certainly, if your son is not better within 2 days of starting the antibiotic, or if you think he is worse even before this, you should have him seen again. Good luck, hope he gets better soon:)
