Holly Said:

Why do firetrucks come when somebody needs an ambulance?

We Answered:

Your friend is an idiot. The fire trucks come because:

a) There area lot more fire precincts than ambulances, so they have a geographic advantage.

b) All firefighters are required to have EMT certification, and as such can stabilize a patient and dramaticaly increase survival chances for critically injured people who are waiting on medical transport.

c) The fire trucks can do any kind of extrication/advanced rescue that an ambulance simply is not equipped to do.

Jobs for people with random associates degrees?

We Answered:

Burger flipping comes to mind.

Seriously, an Associates degree is almost always for a specific field, and not useful for anything else. It's better than a high school diploma, but you never see anybody advertising for a job with "Associates degree required." Doesn't happen.

Jeremy Said:

Best type of medicine to go into?

I will plug my own, forensic pathology. Good hours, pretty good pay, no insurance company hassles, some real answers, research and teaching possibilities, constant learning, incredible job security.

Kay Said:

is being an emergency room doc a good career?

We Answered:

Of course it is. An Er Doctor is the one I most want to see in an emergency. They make a difference! Think of them as front line soldiers!

Frederick Said:

Does emergency medicine require a lot of physical strength?

We Answered:

I dont know where you live, or if you are wanting to work on an ambulance. I work as an EMT-B for 3 years. Yes you will have to do heavy lifting and their will be an agility test. Mine was I had to walk a mile in 45 minutes and carry a dummy that weighed 125 pounds 50 feet. If you can do that I really dont think you will have any trouble working. On the job, you get to see a lot of interesting things and scenarios you will never see working as a CNA in a hospital or nursing home. Plus, on a ambulance you work with a partner and there are usually firefighters and first responders on scene to help you. I say go for it. You will enjoy the job, meet a lot of interesting people and have fun doing it.
