Can a RN apply to medical school right after getting their BA of Nursing? We Answered:
Becoming a nurse has nothing to do with becoming a doctor. These are two different professions with two different educational paths. You would be far better to get a degree in a science before applying to medical school. Nursing school is for people who want to be nurses.Becky Said:
Colleges.... and high school grades.... so frustrated! please read and answer!?We Answered:
I don't think its too late but you do need to get with your counselor and maybe find out more about the colleges and what they look at for acceptance. As for tips I think it is great that you are so concerned with your future and it sounds like you really want it so just go for it. Just do your best in school, do activities you enjoy and figure out what interests you- what you would want to be doing for the rest of your life. Do what makes you feel accomplished and happy. I didn't do very well in high school and still got into a pretty good university. Another tip- don't let you're worries get in the way of what you really want- a good education.Susan Said:
Does Emory University have a good dermatology field? We Answered:
Sure! I've heard lots of good things about it. You might get more specific details about it in the medicine or school/university categories, though.Kirk Said:
Im planning on moving to Georgia, what city do you think is better - Atlanta or Savannah? We Answered:
Your confused. Armstrong is in Savannah, Emory is in Atlanta.Emory is by far a much better school. It is ranked among the best private medical schools in the nation. It's very hard to get into and very expensive. If you get accepted to Emory, go if you can afford it.
Savannah is a beautiful city. A great place to live but you should choose the school not the location that fits you best.
Of course Atlanta will have a better job market. The size of the city creates unlimited access to great opportunities. Savannah is a small town and is limited because of that.
So you need to decide if it's a small town or a big city is what you want.

Which of these schools can i go to school to be an oby/gyn?We Answered:
All of them will allow you to apply for specialization in OBGYN. Make sure to get at least a 3.5 gpa and a 30 on the MCAT in college.Kathleen Said:
So i want to become a dermatologist.....?We Answered:
To become a dermatologist, you need to go to medical school and get your MD degree. So, you'd need to graduate from undergraduate school with any degree that has, at the minimum, what it takes to get into medical school. The admission people acutally like well-rounded people, so you don't need to major in the sciences, but you do have to have the bare minimum that they require. In addition, your MCATS have to be good.Arthur Said:
If i go to a 2 yr college and do my last 2 yrs at 4 yr school could i get n2 med school like Emory or UofMiamiWe Answered:
I went to to a public school and went to medical school, so there is no reason why you can't too!First of all, it is almost impossible to get into a public medical school if you are an out-of-state student. Meaning, that unless you live in California and are a legal resident of that state, you can just about forget UCLA or UCSF or wherever. It just isn't going to happen, but it has nothing to do with doing work at a community college, it is just how these things work. Plan on applying to private schools and public schools within your state of residence.
The most important thing in getting into medical school is to get awesome grades. Nothing less than a B period and nothing less than an A- in any science class ever. You can take your Bio I and II, your physics, and your Chem I and II at the CC, but take your upper division classes at the 4-year university. DO NOT TAKE OCHEM or GENETICS AT THE CC IF YOU EXPECT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY!!!!!
Seriously.
Volunteer. You don't have to deworm orphans in somalia, but you do have to demonstrate a commitment to the health of your community. I volunteered for 3 1/2 years at the planned parenthood near my house. Nothing earth shattering, but it was a demonstrated commitment to the health of women in my community. Most of the time, you will be filling paperwork, but that is okay, the point of volunteering is not to gain experience, it is to help people. And for the purposes of getting into med school, your volunteer experience shows you care about your community.
Take human anatomy and physiology. Is it required? No, but take it anyway. And get A's.
Take Biochem with the lab.
Get to know your professors. Don't show up on the last day of class, and say, hey, I got an A in this class, will you write me a letter of recommendation? Go to office hours, get to know them and take multiple classes with them if possible or get a job in their lab.
For most schools, the priority thing is BS unless you are awesome. Your best bet is to just go to school, get great grades, do well on the MCAT's and really show through your actions that you want to be a doctor, that you care about your community.
Good luck!
