You can Google "family medicine residency programs" and get a better idea of what's involved. Family medicine still requires long hours and being on call. Most of your extra hours would be spent in obstetrics (delivering babies) since not much else happens outside of office hours.

You might have more options going into Internal Medicine instead of Family Medicine. From that you can go into several fields. It would be a lot more efficient to choose a specialty that you like and go directly into that. A full residency in Internal Medicine might shave a year off another program, might not. So, by the time you finish Internal Med and (say) Nephrology, you have invested a lot of years in training. I have known men that were double or even triple-boarded- all professors.

I've noticed that so far you have not had an answer to your question. though I cannot answer the specifics, I can tell you that there are many family practice physicians from other countries and there is a great shortage of family practice doctors in Canada, so I think you will have lots of opportunities here.

in researching this answer I noticed that texas salary i lower than the average national salary for a family medicine physician. The average national salary is $103.000, texas average is $85,000 - $100,000 .

He will get neither but he will be eligible for FCCP once he qualifies (which is more than just the residency). His MBBS status will not change as that is his medical school degree. MBBS does not change into an MD regardless of further training unless one has completed medical school that awards an MD.
