Hay Fever Medicine

Tyler Said:

What is the best home treatment for hay fever beside taking medicine?

We Answered:

I hate it when people just copy and paste information from websites, but I found a pretty good one for you. I know how it feels when medicine has side effects. You feel crappy as it is but then... well, yeah. So here's a link. It talks about the different allergens that my be causing your reactions (ex. outdoor, indoor, etc.) and how to help with them.

Stephen Said:

Is expired hay fever medicine harmful?

We Answered:

The danger of using expired medication is simply undeniable. Similar to expired foods, expired medication not only loses its effectiveness, it also can become dangerous to use these medications because the chemicals have been altered due to various exposures and these changes can be detrimental to your health. Also very similar to foods, although it may not be deadly, your body won't accept the medication, it won't do what it was intended to do, and it can even make you sick.

Lester Said:

Are there any other ways I can reduce the symptoms of Hay fever without medicine?

We Answered:

My dad states to to find a local Bee Handler and take a spoonful of honey everyday before the pollen starts for maximum benefit. Or simply goto a local flea/farmer market and buy locally produced honey.

Every year I forget and end up taking over the counter medicines.

Max Said:

problem with my hay fever medicine why isn't it working?

We Answered:

I have terrible allergies and each year I can add to my list of allergins this includes food as well. A few years ago when I went in for my bi-weekly allergy shot my doctor told me that you should switch your medication about every 6 months or so because your body will begin to build an immunity to the medicine itself. Might be that you need to switch your OTC hay fever medicine for another brand and switch back in other 6 months.

Glen Said:

Is there a home remedy or alternative medicine for hay fever ?

We Answered:

There are several things that work pretty well: nettles, elderberry flowers, vitamin C, echinacea root extract are some. Also quercetin (a bioflavinoid) used with bromelain (a digestive enzyme, taken on an empty stomach.

If it is "killing you" I assume you have a pretty bad case of seasonal allergy. The best product I've found is called Respir-All by NOW Foods, available only in health food stores. It contains several of the things I listed and I've even seen it clear up what had been diagnosed as asthma. Read all the ingredients here: http://www.nowfoods.com/?action=itemdeta…

Some people find that dairy products make their hayfever worse, especially ice cream and whole milk. Try switching to soy, almond or rice milk for a time.
