Infant cold Medicine being pulled? We Answered:
I totally feel the same way you do... so the rest of us have to pay for the negligence of some parents. I know how to read directions and weight charts... I know that you should give a dose of medicine by their weight instead of age... Having to go see a doctor for a prescription for dimetapp is a waste of not only my time but the doctor's as well. If a parent is unsure of a dose, ask the pharmacist, that's what he/she is there for! That's something I always do when I'm buying an over the counter cold/flu drug of ANY sort!!Fernando Said:
i just saw a news clip 5 seconds ago that they are banding all infant cough medicine....?We Answered:
Hi Ramona, l think the problem is that Some manufacturers ARE putting pictures of Babies on medicines that are unsuitable for babies. I myself think, Better Safe than sorry, so if your baby is under one year old- always see your doctor. Love Jo xxMaureen Said:
Recall of infant medicine listed on yahoo? We Answered:
When multiple babies are dieing because their parents are giving them too much of the cold/cough drugs, then there's an obvious problem with the drug irregardless if the parents are misreading the directions, or not reading the directions at all. It should be fool proof, if you ask me. A slight little mistake such as giving your baby too much will kill him/her!! That's a good reason for a recall.Ramon Said:
Can I give my 3 month old son pedia care infant cough drops? If so how much should I give him?We Answered:
If a doctor advised against it, I wouldn't chance it. Try a humidifier and letting your baby sleep propped up (maybe in his carrier). I don't know of anything you can give a baby that young for a cough that is not prescribed by a doctor.Harold Said:
What kind of cough medicine can I use for an infant? We Answered:
There is no cough medicine approved for infants. Nothing you buy at Wal-Mart is suitable for him so don't give him any type of cough medicine. Infants often cough because of mucous drainage so your best course of action is to give him some saline drops for his nose, which you can buy at Wal-Mart. I am assuming he has some type of cold. Try putting a cool mist humidifier in the room where he is. You can also buy that at Wal-Mart. This will help keep the air that he is breathing moist. If he is stuffy, you may also need to hold him a lot since lying flat on his back is going to make his sinus drainage uncomfortable. Hold him as upright as you can. In his crib, you can elevate the head of his crib with some blocks under the crib legs or you can even place a pillow under his mattress. This way he is lying flat on his back, but his head is elevated thus easing the drainage down the back of his throat. Buy some saline nose drops and a cool mist humidifier at Wal-Mart, but don't give him any medicine as there is nothing approved for babies. ADDED: Absolutely do NOT give a baby under 12 months honey. There is a potentially harmful condition called infant botulism that babies can get from ingesting honey. It is recommended to wait until at least 12 months and some doctors say 24 months before giving babies honey.Jeff Said:
Infant Cough medicines?We Answered:
Ask a pharmacist. Some cold medicines can be given but in specific doses according to weight. U didn't mention how bad the cold is. Are you worried about RSV? With my infants I used infant nasal spray, bulb syringe (the kind with the wide nose piece so I didn't poke to hard) and humidifier. If you don't have a humidifier, you can always boil water to get moisture in the air but be careful. Don't worry unless she starts having a lot of green mucus. And babies cough a lot and that is good because they are excersizing their lungs. Could formula be the cause? Some formula's can make them croupy. You might try giving her about one ounce of water after her bottle. (can add a tiny bit of sugar to sweeten it so she'll be more willing to drink it. Hope this helps. E-mail me if you need to. Oh, and you can just call a walmart or walgreens and ask the pharmacist over the phone.Rick Said:
Infant coughing, what medicines are the best?We Answered:
You could try Mucinex. I don't know what the dosage is for a 7 month old. You could call a doctor and speak to a nurse. They should be able to tell you if you need to come in to get a prescription or just what the dosage would be for Mucinex. If you could get into see a doctor that would be the best choice. If you can't do any of the above, then you need to get her in a humid room. If you don't have a humidifier, then you could go into the bathroom, shut the door and window and run the hot water on the hottest temp and sit in the bathroom ( NOT IN THE WATER!) and let her breathe in the the humidity. Strip her down to her diaper. It will be hot in there. Just let her breathe it for a few minutes. Don't over heat. You just want her to inhale the steam. Hopefully this helps. Please call a nurse to help though. You could also try rubbing Vick's vapor rub on the bottom of her feet and putting socks on. This really does work. I tried it with both of my boys and it really did quiet their cough while they slept and it made for a more restful night. I know it's hard to see them so miserable. I'm sorry I forgot to mention this before.
