The best over the counter medicine is an antinflamatory like ibuprofen or aspiren, acetametaphin does nothing for inflamation. In Canda you can ask the pharmacist for aspirin with codeine, it's an 8 mg. But it will tide you over until you see a doctor. If your in the states just buy advil or Robaxacin, but make sure it's the kind with asprin in it not acetametphin. If the pain runs down your buttocks into your legs it's definately a disc. So look up Mckenzie exercises on the web, try Mayo Clinic web site and do the recommended exercises, the best is to lay on your stomach with your head on your elbows, like when you were a kid watching TV it will help relieve the pressure on the disc. If it's spasms get the Robaxacin it will help the spasms. Good luck

No one wants to give someone the wrong medical advice on line or otherwise. It would be terrible if you bought something and it "backfired" no pun intended....It's always best to get a good physical. You will be far ahead if you go this route first.
If you want to use "natural" treatments there are doctors who can help you go in that direction. If you have a "medical health board" in your city call them for advice doctors who are in that profession.

p.s. The doctors need to get to the cause of the pain before treating you. It could come from a number is things. Old Injuries or your posture while sitting at the computer....etc. many things.

If you truly have herniated discs you can only really have surgery or wait it out and hope that your body absorbs and dries out those discs that have herniated. What most docs do is give you 800mg of ibuprofen, which is the same as taking four advil (200mg each) To tell you the truth nothing over the counter will really help you, it may take a little bit of the edge off. Did you have a MRI to confirm your discs are herniated? Because if they are just budging there are thing you can do to help. Hope this helps
