Medicine For Bipolar Disorder

Milton Said:

is there medicine for bipolar disorder?

We Answered:

There are many medications out there for bi-polar disorders. You need to be evaluated by a psychiatrist

Nathan Said:

I am taking my new medicine for bipolar disorder but still feel hypomanic. Should I ask for dose increase?

We Answered:

Two weeks is not enough time yet. So glad to see that you feel better. Rather than up the dosage (given a chance to let the medicine get into your body and make all the necessary changes) your Dr. may want to change meds. But, I think he will want you on your dosage for another 4 wks to 3 mos before making any changes. Good Luck!

Phillip Said:

Does anyone know if thier is any Holistic Medicine for Bipolar Disorder?

We Answered:

You must remain on your medication.
For your liver you can use hepatoprotectives (Cynara scolymus, Silybum marianum, Schisandra chinensis) to reduce the effects of compromised liver function. Your liver will have to do a lot of work to remove the medication from your body. Also improve your digestion by using a digestive stimulant (Coleus forskohlii, Zingiber officinale). Using antidepressants, anxiolytics, nervine tonics and sedatives will all be appropriate at different times.

You may like to try some Bach flowers: Cherry plum for feelings of insanity and prevention of hurting themselves or others; Holly for suspicion, jealousy and anger; Scleranthus to help make decisions; Impatients for manic episodes where the person needs slowing down.

Diet & lifestyle

Whole foods.
Avena sativa decoctions.
Avoid sweets and processed foods.
Check for food sensitivity and food intolerances. Wheat is a common problem.
Check for heavy metal toxicity or chemical exposure.
Stop smoking if this is an issue.
Avoid tea, coffee, alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and any other nerve stimulants/depressants.
Increase the intake of oily fish ie sardines, tuna and salmon to supplement with omega 3 – This is very important.
Increase intake of vitamin A, B6, B3, C, folate, E, selenium and zinc rich foods.
Eat 5-6 small meals per day to regulate blood sugar levels.
Maintain fluid intake, particularly if taking lithium.
Stress management.
Exercise.

Make an appointment with a medical herbalist and work on the right template which is your liver. You don't want your liver to deteriorate anymore than it is already.

Irene Said:

What are some effective natural methods for managing Bipolar Disorder without medicine or therapy?

We Answered:

I have tried so many times so go without medication and try alternative treatments all with no effect and I end up relapsing and being hospitalised. There probably are some people out there that are able to embrace alternative therapies, but I am not one of them.

How does medicine to treat bipolar disorder affect you?

We Answered:

i like my pills
i remember to take them 90 % of the time

ok i can say .......it helps make you calm and the racing thoughts will subside and you will get the best sleep you ever experienced

for me the mania is always there like cleaning, organizing, putting on flashy make up and/or working up a sweat exercising are totally my highs but i have mixed feelings every other day or sometimes even daily I don't know if Im coming or going and I dwell on where ive been I dislike that Im always aware of the disorders

i especially hate the haunting depression that invites itself in...

but honestly don't be scared to be medicated its not so bad

once you figure out and befriend crazy ...living with bipolar disorder gets totally easier

medicine for bipolar disorder?

A few that might help some (like fish oil) but there is nothing that will really work well. Your doctor may have samples that can get you through a couple of months (mine does that for me) and most pharmacutical companies have programs for people who can't afford your meds. Have you talked to yoru doctor? Have you actually been diagnosed?
