Medicine For Conjunctivitis

Victor Said:

What should I do about viral conjunctivitis?

We Answered:

It is a common misconception that there is nothing that can be done medicinally for a viral conjunctivitis. Is there anything that can be done to kill the virus? No. BUT, is there anything that can be done to make you feel ALOT better while the virus is running its course. Most definitely. I regularly prescribe topical steroid drops for this purpose. This does nothing to kill the virus but it suppresses the eye's inflammatory response to the virus while the virus is running its course. This allows the patient to enjoy life and continue with their day to day activities in a much more acceptable fashion. One of my favorites drops to use for this purpose is Tobradex. It combines a corticosteroid (that's what makes you feel better) with an antibiotic to provide a cover for any possible secondary bacterial infection that could occur while the immune response is being suppressed. The virus won't leave your ocular tissues any faster but I promise you that you will enjoy life much more while you are waiting for the virus to get the h$ll out of dodge city.

EDIT: You see. I told you so. Even many eye doctors don't understand this concept. I've already gotten a thumbs down. I PROMISE you though what I am saying WORKS!!!! I've been doing this for 26 years and MY patients are the ones that are happier. If you want to suffer through this then by all means go ahead and suffer. But it simply doesn't have to be that way.

Elaine Said:

Conjunctivitis or blocked duct?

We Answered:

My oldest daughter seems to have had a conjunctivitis problem on and off since she was younger (she's now 10). Homeopathic eye drops should be fine. I haven't taken her to the doctor for it since the very first time, and it always goes away. The medicine won't hurt even if it is a blocked tear duct, but you might want to make sure you don't have a sinus infection. Hope you feel better!

What eye drops did your vet prescribe for cat conjunctivitis?

We Answered:

A vet will not sell you antibiotics over the counter without first examining your animal.

Vera Said:

How do I cure my persian cat's chronic conjunctivitis?

We Answered:

Have you taken your cat to the vet? They should be able to cure it with some medicines or possibly antibiotics if she has some type of virus or infection that is causing it. I hope your cat gets better.

Joy Said:

My dog has conjunctivitis, what treatments can i use?

We Answered:

Call your vet.

Don't cut corners when it comes to your dog's care and don't self-medicate. Your dog could go blind with some of these remedies. Would that be worth it to you to save a little money?

If money is a problem, ask your vet for a payment plan.
