Medicine For Diarrhea

Paula Said:

Is it safe to allow oneself to have diarrhea for over one week and not get it checked my a physician?

We Answered:

If he is purposefully inducing the diarrhea, this is never a healthy thing. If it is happening on its own, and it is lasting for more than three days, then this is never a healthy thing either. You're not getting rid of toxins like that; you're getting rid of necessary nutrients.

Jim Said:

How long after a colonoscopy does a person normally have diarrhea?

We Answered:

No this is not normal.
She or you need to contact her treating Doctor.

With a colonoscopy you are given medication that causes diarrhea to clean the colon.
But this clears after a day.

A bowel obstruction can cause diarrhea in itself.

How long has the diarrhea continued?
She would be going into dehydration by now placing her whole body at risk.

Please contact her Doctor ASAP.

Gerald Said:

Corgi puppy anti-diarrhea medicine question?

We Answered:

She doesn't drink as much water because the medication she is on is probably slowing down the movement of the intestine to give it the ability to absorb more water from the stool before it exits the body. As far as the color, it can be different colored for a while after an episode like what you described. It'll probably change back to normal in a few days. I'm guessing the medicine they put the puppy on was centrine? If that's what it is, you don't have to finish that medication and can stop giving it as soon as the stool firms up.

Judy Said:

Does cold medicine give you diarrhea?

We Answered:

No it is probably not due to the medicine. I can't think of many cold medicines that do that so look at the side effects first. It is probably your body's response to the cold or flu in general. A good way to get ride of bacteria in the body is to send it to waste right? It's a response called Negative Feedback. When something works against your body there has to be a response to maintain stability. That's why when we get hot we sweat because our ducts open up to vent or when we get cold we shiver to keep our muscles warm. After today you will probably feel better. Don't worry and keep taking a Normal dose of medication that is recommended and your body will take care of itself.
