Hi buttercup cough syrup because it has squill extract and liquorice which will apparently cut through the phlegm and also has honey and lemon for the dry cough.Apparently if you go for the original covonia then it will do the same job but apparently is more expensive. and doesn't contain honey and lemon.

Broadly speaking there are no therapeutically useful 'cough mixtures'. Anything soothing may help including just sucking a sweet ot taking frequent sips of any cool fluid.

If the cough is due to a minor viral illness it is probably going to be self limiting and short lived.If it persists beyond 3 weeks,investigation including chest X Ray is indicated.Most persistent coughs are however due to post viral lung reactivity,often called bronchial hyper-reactivity.If this does not settle on its own it is managed with steroids.
