Medicine For Migraine

What is the best medicine for migraine? We Answered:
If you suffer headaches regularly, try to avoid using medications daily. It turn out that excess acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen or other painkillers can actually cause a rebound effect-now called "daily headache syndrome." It's one more reason why some doctors are becoming more supportive of non drug attempts at pain relief, including massage, acupressure, ice pack, biofeedback or relaxation therapyThis drug free headache remedy harks back to ancient Greece, where citizens were known to have pressed peppermint leaves to their temples to ease headache pain. Today, to get a similar effect, you can simply rub a 10% peppermint-oil solution into the forehead and temples.
And medical support for this remedy comes, a few Millennium later, from the University of Kiel in Germany, where a team noticed that acetaminophen (as found in Tylenol) and peppermint oil were equally effective in easing the pain of tension headache. Combining the two painkillers brought even faster relief. Time to head to the herb shop or natural food store for some oil.
Over the past decade, interest in the feverfew plant as a migraine remedy has hit new heights, even through the herbal remedy has been around for millennia and has been used in other conditions (yes, including fevers). Research in Europe has shown that the feverfew leaves can bring relief to some migraine patients by reducing serotonin secretion and production of prostaglandin, inflammatory agent, to help prevent the bloodvessell dilation associated with migraines. What's more, it's been shown that feverfew can prevent future episodes.
The problem is, this is one natural medication that is far more effective in its raw form than in pills or tablets. So countless migraine suffers have tried feverfew capsules and been left wanting-and in pain.Your best bet in this case is to track down the leaves or a tincture made from fresh leaves (steeped in alcohol).
If you can't find the leaves(available from herb specialty stores and suppliers), look for prepared products that contain sufficient concentration (0.2%) of the active ingredient, parthenolide. The national health organization of Canada has approved the feverfew leaf for migraine prevention, as long as products contain that level.
Dosage:
At the first sign of a migraine, take one teaspoon of feverfew tincture mixed in a cup of water. If that's not available, take three or four 125-mg capsules or tablets. Repeat every four hours as needed.

I need help on finding the right migraine medicine at 14 years old.?We Answered:
Have you tried ayurvedic treatment? One of my friends found it very helpful for migraines. They have a treatment called sirodhara that settles any neurological issues. Sirodhara is where you drop medicated oil or water gently over the third eye (forehead) for 30 minutes or more. See a user comment at http://www.AyurvedaExchange.com - the fourth practitioner on the page, Iris Campion.Good luck! I had mild migraines and they were no fun at all!

What kind of migraine medicine is there? We Answered:
There are so many migraine medications it is crazy. Although I can not be certain, the med that comes in the hard blue box is Maxalt MLT and is not a patch. It is a triptan med that melts under the tongue and is very effective. For the most part, doctors try not to use narcotics to treat migraines since they can cause severe and recurrent rebound headaches that are usually worse than the original! While they can be used, they are usually only used in extreme cases. There is also Relpax, Immitrex, Midrin, and Fioricet, just to name a few. And depending on the person, all have their upsides. She always has the option of trying another med if this one does not work and she should never be afraid to ask for a change.Jonathan Said:
