Are there any OTC medicines for high blood pressure? We Answered:
No, unfortunately there are no over the counter medications to lower blood pressure. There are many blood pressure medications that are very good and cheap because they are generic. Like someone already mentioned, you can get certain prescriptions for $4 for 30 day supply or $10 for a 90 day supply. I am not sure what medications he was on, but many of my favorite choices are generic. Many doctors in private practice prescribe more expensive medications, but just because something is more expensive does not mean it works better.I am not sure how high his blood pressure is, but there are things besides medication that can help lower blood pressure. This includes modification of the diet including decreasing salt, cholesterol and saturated fats and increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables. The DASH diet is associated with the greatest reduction in blood pressure and you can search it if you are interested. Also, regular exercise 5 times weekly for at least 1 hour can help lower blood pressure. Excess alcohol consumption can increase blood pressure; therefore he should not consume more than 2 alcoholic beverages daily. These changes can help lower the blood pressure to a certain extent, but medications may be needed also depending on how high the blood pressure is.
There are resources available for individuals with no health insurance. Most areas have clinics that provide free or discounted services to the uninsured. Many also provide medications for cheap. Call the social services office in your county to determine which resources are available in your area. Uncontrolled high blood pressure increases the risk of heart attack, stroke and death. It is important not to ignore it. Good luck.

should i start taking medicines for high blood pressure or try yoga to reduce it? i am 22 years old?We Answered:
I think you are too young to have to take medication for it. Watch the sodium in your diet. Also, regular exercise. If your pressure doesn't regulate after making diet/lifestyle changes, see a doctor to get their advice. Sometimes high blood pressure can be a symptom of something else.Johnny Said:
how to gain weight while continuing high blood pressure medicines? We Answered:
Are you underweight? I would encourage you to see your doctor. You could be dehydrated for some reason. Also your medications may need adjusting if you are feeling too weak or tired. Are some of your BP medications diuretics? If so, you could be dehydrated from these. Please talk to your doctor and see what needs to be done. Your electrolytes could also be out of order.Tracy Said:

What are some Over the Counter Medicines for High Blood Pressure? We Answered:
Thank you for the question.Jennifer, I have a news flash for you and your husband:
THIS JUST IN: Antihypertensive medications are NOT available over-the-counter, and they NEVER will be.
So, if you husband refuses to see a doctor and refuses to diet and exercise despite extensive counseling to the contrary, then the consequences of having longstanding uncontrolled high blood pressure (i.e., stroke or heart attack or kidney failure) are his problem.
