Natural Medicine Schools

Clara Said:

I want to know about schooling for natural health/alternative medicine?

We Answered:

Just learn science, read peer reviewed health studies, and then declare that both fields are wrong about everything, and say the opposite is right.

Also, when people say that you don't make any sense after you do that, just start whining about a conspiracy. You gain more credibility every time you use the phrase "Big Pharma".

It sounds like it wouldn't work, but it has for a lot of people. Good luck!

Advice about natural medicine career?

We Answered:

Stick to getting your MD, then going into specialization rather than going into the quack zone of "natural" medicine. If you get your medical degree, you will be exposed to science and evidence-based medicine. You will have access to new research, new drugs/treatments and new diagnostics to help your patients. You will be government regulated. You will have professional organizations who will give you continuing medical education. Your patients will respect you and will not "regard you as a scam artist."

I practiced for four years as a GP before going into residency. Before that I studied for 8 years getting my bachelors and my medical degree. In the end, I'll probably spend 16 years just to be a specialist. Regrets? None whatsoever! Being an MD is a commitment and you should be prepared to spend a lot of time getting to where you want. In the end, it will be so worth it. I promise you that.

Natural medicine/spirituality schools?

We Answered:

You might need to split your education as I'm not aware of a school that does all of those things.

For herbal education try look at Tai Sophia Institute. This is a longer course. It's in Maryland

There's a few other shorter programs in your area, but only 1 comes to mind at the moment. 7Song is an associate teacher at the school I attended on the west coast. He's fantastic and very knowledgable and based in upstate NY.

For the spiritual side you might want to look into Transpersonal Psychology schools. Here's one that popped up but I know there are more out there.

If you are into the spiritual... pertaining to hands-on energy work look into Barbara Brennans school in Florida. I think she does 2 week course a couple times a year and it's a 4 year program but can be done in 3 years.

Natural medicine school help!?

We Answered:

CA does not yet have a school in naturopathy.
Washington, Oregon, Arizona, CT all have naturopathic medical schools.

CA licensure for LAc (licensed acupuncturists) is very strong with primary care standing. There are many fine institutions where you can learn excellent Chinese medicine.
