Natural Thyroid Medicine

Angela Said:

Have you ever got pregnant on taking anti depressants or thyroid medicine?

We Answered:

I was on zoloft for two of my three pregnancies with no problem. I had post-partum depression very bad after my first baby and the doctor thought it was safer to keep me on the zoloft rather than risk being depressed during pregnancy. My best friend is pregnant right now and takes thyroid medicine. Her doctor told her it is more dangerous to not take the meds. because your thyroid affects how the baby grows. As far as the St. John Wart is concerned, just because something is natural does not mean it is safe. Herbs are not regulated by the fda so be careful as to what you take. Especially if you are pregnant. Good Luck!!

natural ways to cure a thyroid?

We Answered:

I am clearly missing something somewhere, the natural way since the stone age was basically not to get better. Once you developed a chronic condition you were stuck with it. An acute one was often fatal, pneumonia often killed you, an infected wound was frequently a lethal and terminal event.

The natural course of a patient with underactive thyroid was for the patient to get tired and sluggish, for them to feel cold and their skin to coarsen. Their hair would thin and their nails become brittle, their voice deepened and became croaky and they became course featured and expressionless. They became depressed, slow witted and sometime psychotic, (myxoedematous madness.) They gained weight and their heart rate slowed, they were also more prone to heart failure and heart attacks.

This situation remained unchanged until in 1894 Eugen Baumann a brilliant German scientist was the first to treat people's underactive thyroids with extracts made from animal thyroid glands. In 1914, the American biochemist Edward Kendall isolated and used the crystalline form of the hormone, which was later named thyroxine. In 1926 the British chemist C. R. Harington (1897-1972) determined thyroxine's exact structure and synthesized it. Their unnatural genius has allowed millions of people to be successfully treated with replacement hormone and avoid this suffering.

Your choice, use their discoveries or be cold, dry, slow and dim.

Any natural ways to increase thyroid production?

We Answered:

You should eat foods that are rich in iodine, like kelp and seaweed, but high-dose iodine supplements are *not* recommended since too much iodine can actually block the thyroid’s ability to make hormone.

The other very important thing for you to understand is that there are certain foods that contain natuaral gotrogens. Goitrogens are foods that can affect thyroid function by inhibiting synthesis of thyroid hormones, meaning that you should stay away from them. Goitrogenic foods include Brussel sprouts, kohlrabi, turnips, rutabaga, radishes, cabbage, kale, and cauliflower, rapeseed, broccoli, sweet potatoes, and soya.

Certain medicines can also block thyroid hormone such as Lithium. L-Carnitine, a powerful and potentially useful energy promoting nutritional product can also block the thyroid if taken in high doses.

A healthy diet for someone with hypothyroidism would include whole grains, natural foods, plenty of fruits and vegetables and a good supply of seafood and other lean protein. You should cut back on fatty meats.

A multivitamin is probably a good idea if you don’t already take one.
Selenium may be the most important nutrient in a diet for hypothyroid;
this trace mineral is an antioxidant and is essential for converting the thyroid hormone your body produces, T4, into its active form, T3. Brazil nuts are an incredibly good source of selenium, but you can also get it from some lean meats. You don't have to overdo it, 3 or 4 brazil nuts a day is all you need.

Another tactic that will be very helpful for you if you’re trying to lose weight is eating more fiber. Fiber makes you feel full and can help you lose weight, in addition to being helpful for constipation, another side effect of hypothyroidism. The best way to get fiber is from whole foods, like beans, rice and other grains, whole wheat and oatmeal. Cut out all white flour and sugar and eat several small meals instead of three larger ones daily.

Good luck.

New Thyroid Medicine and Aging Appearance?

We Answered:

that sucks... if you want to try a more natural way of correcting your bodys problems
you might want to give yoga a try... specifically bikram yoga ....

my husband has had thyroid problems too and I am trying to get him to go ....

some of the postures work to compress the thyroid and glands in that area allowing them to
be "flushed" and refilled with fresh oxygenated blood, something in our daily lives we rarely do.

its great for your overall health.. its done in a heated room too so you will really like it in the winter
months. yoga definitely keeps you looking younger and is great for your health overall...

good luck.
