Nuclear Medicine Technologist Programs

Jean Said:

Can anybody sponsor me to become a Nuclear Medical Technologist?

We Answered:

Try the Associate Degree Program (2 yr.) at Ferris State University in Michigan...
"Ferris has the only University-based program in Michigan. Job placement is 100 percent with our graduates recruited nationally. Ferris graduates demonstrate excellent pass rates on national exams. The program is fully accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology. The program combines general education and specialized courses with clinical training.

The first three semesters are spent on the Big Rapids campus. Course work includes human anatomy and physiology, radiation and nuclear physics, and nuclear medicine theory and methods. Students spend the next two semesters in a hospital setting with emphasis on the clinical application of theory.

Graduates of this program are well prepared to work in the field of nuclear medicine, and are eligible to take the national certifying examinations for registry in nuclear medicine technology."

Anthony Said:

nuclear medicine technician...?

We Answered:

Right now the job market for Nuclear Medicine Techs is not very good. I recently graduated from a BS program and I am having a VERY difficult time trying to find a job.

I don't know if you aware of the generator shortage at the moment, but one of the major suppliers for Molybdenum99 generators (the one in Canada) is shutdown right now and will probably not reopen for several months. These means fewer radiopharmaceuticals are available and we can scan fewer patients. That leads to fewer hours and less money. If a facility has less patients and is losing money, then they won't want to hire new Techs.

Nurses are still in high demand. Everytime I do a job search for myself pages of RN jobs show up...

All I can say is good luck because it is a tough field to get a job in right now.

Justin Said:

Bachelor in Nuclear Medicine = Radiation therapists?

We Answered:

No. Nuclear medicine, radiation therapy, radiologic technology and sonography are all different modalities. Which one are you interested in?

Angela Said:

Future in nuclear medicine?

We Answered:

Nuclear medicine requires a considerable amount of physics in terms of understanding the nature of nuclear decay, types of decay that produce various radiotracers (radiopharmaceuticals) and so clearly, there is a good amount of mathematics involved, but it is rather simple mathematics.

Ricky Said:

School offering nuclear med program?

We Answered:

www.allalliedhealthschools.com

This website will let you search in your area for these programs. Double check these, as I found one out of date. Also, consider contacting ASRT, ASTRO, or ARRT which are all organizations for radiology fields.
