Over The Counter Heartburn Medicine
Monica Said:
Heartburn anyone?We Answered:
Avoid antacids while pregnant, unless the Doctor has informed you to take them. Antacids can cause rebound effect and actually cause more heartburn. Try saltine crackers. Try flat coke. Also, do not lay down for at least 30 minutes after eating. While erect, use 3-4 pillows. Avoid spicy foods. Eat slow, chew food well, drink water in between bites when eating.Ron Said:
What over-the-counter medicine can I give my 2-year old for heartburn? We Answered:
Until you see the doctor, do not give her anything other than milk for the discomfort. If you are wrong about what is wrong with her, blindly medicating her could cause more harm than good.Make sure her head is propped up on a pillow when she is in bed. If it is heartburn, it is often worse when lying flat.

Should I continue to take alka seltzer? We Answered:
It is fairly easy to become dependent on antacids. The problem is this: When you take an antacid it will neutralize ALL the acid in your stomach. Actually it raises the PH. Your body will sense this and start producing more acid. So u may end up taking the antacid again. It can become a never ending circle.I got off them altogether by drinking a lot of water or milk when I felt the heartburn. Once in a while I will revert to baking soda but that is usually when I have eaten or drank something bad or excessive.
My father was dependent on maalox and used to eat about 100 maalox tablets a week. at least
Don't forget the low (acid) ph of the stomach is there for a reason, to digest food. You body will try to keep it at a certain level and will produce an equal amount of acid for whatever antacid you take.
I used to take a lot of antacid but essentially non now. I remember sometimes I would have to sit up at night (or walk around), drink lot of H2O or milk. Once everything was settled I could get back to sleep.
Good luck

Heartburn during pregnancy..?We Answered:
Avoid laying down. Try to keep your head elevated. I had really bad heartburn from mainly peaches of all things when I was pregnant. I had no problem with them before I was pregnant! Spicy foods never bothered me. In fact, the spicer the better! lol I tried all sorts of things (doctor approved of course) to try to ease the discomfort/pain and I never found anything that really worked. Tums did the best for me, but they weren't 100%.Dianne Said:
