Sports Medicine Doctor

Daniel Said:

what subjects are needed in order to be a sports medicine doctor?

We Answered:

You shouldn't even be thinking seriously about a specialty until you're in your last two years of medical school. You need to have a bachelors degree, a medical degree, and then spend x amount of years doing a residency in sports medicine.

A bachelors degree in ANYTHING. Just make sure that you get the prerequisites completed (biology, chemistry, physics, organic chemistry, calculus, english) and take the MCAT.

What to major to become a sports medicine doctor?

We Answered:

Before you think about your specialty in medicine, you need to get into (and through) medical school. To be best prepared for medical school, a biochemistry-type major is best. That's what you mostly study in medical school. To be more likely to get into medical school, they like to see something out of the ordinary and difficult (it proves you're smart and work hard): engineering undergrads often have very high acceptance rates. Chemical or biomedical engineering would both be good. Math would also be good, or genetics, pathobiology, and the like.

I want to be a doctor. Is sports medicine a good class to take?

We Answered:

Sports medicine depends on the school you go to, ask your class mates because we don't know your teacher/program for example at my school it sucks and is a blow off class but at many other schools there are great programs that tell you a lot. But first off I think instead of contemplating if you want to take this class it would be more useful if you looked into what type of doctor you might want to be (you can chose a few that you like you have tons of time to chose what type or even if you really want to be a doctor) and then look into the requirements to go into those fields. This is important because then you will find what classes you need to take besides the obvious like sports medicine. A hard fact that many of us who aspire to be a doctor is that we don't realize that a doctor has a college degree before they take there MCAT to get their medical degree in medical school which is after normal college. Many people before they go to medical school major in some type of science like Biology or Biochemistry or what not(you look it up it is what you chose). And some get a pre-med but you don't need a pre-med degree and many colleges don't offer them because you can be prepared with any another degree.
Look for courese that will help you in obtain your collegee degree (I mean that can prepair you for the course when you take it in colegee)
If they have AP in your school start considering AP science classes such as AP Bio or Chem because normally these will be the classes that will most go over the human body and things you need to know as a doctor.
Sports medicine is good for sophomore year because AP's are hard and you can see if you really like the small amount of stuff they give you (I'm sorry but at most schools it is not a very strong program) but it will give you a small taste which is good. If you then are still set on being a doctor then I highly recommend taking AP Bio Junior year or Senior year.

Christina Said:

How do you become a sports medicine doctor?

We Answered:

You should try for the Sports Therapy degree. To become a sports medicine doctor you need to first graduate with a bachelor's degree in almost any subject. Then you need to attend medical school and when it comes time to specialize you need to find a sports medicine degree program.
