Statistics In Medicine
Raymond Said:
Medicine is applied statistics?We Answered:
Quacks indeed. Statistics make sure that the science of medicine is valid. I don't know how scientific or medical research will work without statistical analysis. Maybe alt med quacks prefer anecdotes and stories to real, unbiased data? It's much simpler for them to understand that.Marvin Said:
what is the connection of statistics in the field of medicine? We Answered:
Medicine is all about statistics. A patient has a set of symptoms and signs. Those are compared to recognized syndromes, a statistical analysis, to produce a differential diagnosis, and a further statistical analysis is made taking into account such factors as incidence and prevalence of the possibilities to produce the working diagnosis. Whether to run tests is in itself a statistical analysis, as is the test itself and its interpretation. Treatments are also chosen on the basis of statistical analysis, and it's routine to find that a treatment that makes perfectly good sense doesn't work out as expected in actual practice, again statistical analysis.Wesley Said:
I need a few interesting facts/statistics about american/western medicine in america, & American Doctors/Hosp.We Answered:
well americas one of the only countries where huge phharmecudical companies get to give kickbacks to doctors who prescribe their meds. also american doctors are among the highest paid in the world, because american healthcare is in such a poor state. I went in to the ER 4 yrs ago, and told the doctors that I hads broken my collar bone and needed a sling and pain pills, after 5 Xray, and a bill of almost 3 grand. the doctor told me i had a broken collar bone and needed a sling and pain pills. one of the reasons for this is because we get footed the bill for illeagal immigrants that don't pay for their healthcare. and when something goes wrong, they sue our doctors and turn their misfortune into a very real monetary fortune. also insurance compnaies are posting record proffits, despite lower standards of living and health throughout the country because they take our payments willingly enough, but do everything in their power to deny our very real medial claims. the whole system is broken, and cannot be fixed while doctors are gladly putting 100's of thousands of dollars into one pocket, while passing out rittilin to any child that has trouble sitting still out of the other one..also, americans are extremely over medicated. one of the draw backs about taking antibiotics and other medicine every time you sneeze, is that everytime you do, it makes your body less able to fight off infection and viruses without the extra help. we are in fact making our selves more prone to sickness. we are also taking meds, that have side effects so bad that you need to take another pill to counteract the anal leakage that your heartburn medication gives you. and then another to cover the heartburn, that your anal leakage pill causes. wouldn't we all just be better off to just drink a glass of milk to settle indegestion, rather than popping a bunch of pills that are probably all going to give us deadly forms of cancer, and heart disease, when the FDA actually makes time to do a study on them. On the brightside, once that happens, we can always turn around and sue someone right??...

what is the importance of statistics in medicine? We Answered:
Helps both the doctor and the patient plan the method of treatment or to know what to expect.Without statistics, how else could a doctor tell a patient... for e.g. you have about 3 months to live... these types of statements are all based on statistics.
Of course however, there are exceptions. Know of a lady who has cancer and was told 2 years ago that she had 3 months to live as her cancer was in advanced stage. BUT, she's still alive now. I think it's a miracle and due to her mental strength to fight the problem - meditation.

I notice statistics is used in medicine. Anyone know if statistics departments in colleges were funded with ..We Answered:
Free will. Choice. The power to pick a destiny. To break a habit. Oh, it all sounds so convincing, so clear-cut and so inarguable. Until, that is, we find ourselves swept away on a tide of change over which we have no control. Some impulses are compulsive. Some circumstances are overwhelming. Even the most zealous believers in the power of conscious determination, will sometimes become flotsam and jetsam on the ocean of inevitability. And that, as you are about to discover, is no bad thing.llllllllll llllllllll llllllllllll lllllllllll llllllllll
