Air Force Nursing Careers

Dwayne Said:

Career in Air Force or Nursing?

We Answered:

Well I got out of the Air Force about 4 years ago after completing my 4 -year enlistment. I was a weather forecaster and although I didn't mind the easy job of analyzing weather charts, I did not enjoy working with many of the people in my unit. So I got out and decided to go back to college. One of the guys I served with got out as well and we keep in touch. I went to chiropractic school and he went to nursing school. He is currently a nurse in a hospital in Detroit while I am still finishing up Chiropractic school. From what he tells me he really enjoys working there a whole lot better then what he did in the AF and the best part is he gets paid a whole lot more. You only need a 2 year college degree to be a nurse and the time really flies when your in school. I would suggest researching this. You have plenty of time but use your time wisely. Make sure you wanna be a nurse. Go to a hospital and ask to interview nurses. Ask them if you can observe them in thier work environment and find out if what they do is really what you wanna do. There are so many medical fields out there that are in demand. You may decide that after you observe nurses that you dont want to do that. You may want to be an X-ray technician instead, or a Medical Technologist.

Do research this though. Don't settle for the Air Force if you really don't like it there. There are literally thousands of things out there for you that pay so much better than the AF with LESS THE HASSLE. Good luck to you!

I'm thinking about joining the air force to pursue nursing, is this a good career choice?

We Answered:

This sounds like a smart decision. You will get discipline in the military and learn a lot of your nursing career. Go You!

Air Force Nursing Career?

We Answered:

Nursing is a great field. Very rewarding. You'll be valuable to the military and in the civilian world. You can always get a job very quickly once you decide to leave the service.

School all depends on what your good at. The hardest part in my opinion is the micro biology, organic chemistry, and depending on the school, the kind of math you have to take.

The easiest part of nursing school would be like the psy, ENG, SOC courses, the hardest would be all the science you'd have to take. You can earn Associates degree in nursing, then Bach, then, Masters degree.. thats an NP (nurse practitioner) you write prescriptions, diagnose illnesses and more.. (like a doc)

I need advice on college vs. Air Force?

We Answered:

Try to get into another college. Try as hard as you can to stay in school. The odds of "going back to school" after serving are very slim. What is the worst case scenario? You can join the Air Force until the age of 35. So try your best to get that college education, and if you STILL are curios about joining the military you can become an Officer with a college degree. They are treated much better than enlisted people. I know a year of crappy grades SEEMS like he end of the world, but colleges want you money. You will get in somewhere, then you can transfer to any school you want after a semester. Good luck! STAY IN SCHOOL!!!

Air Force and Nursing?

We Answered:

Link to USAF's healthcare opportunities: http://www.airforce.com/opportunities/he…

You can enlist and apply for programs which will pay for your schooling (provided you get accepted to a school) and the opportunity to become an officer afterwards.

If you forego enlisting and go directly to college, you can apply for an ROTC scholarship if the school allows it.

I'm not a nurse but am active-duty AF for nearly 15 years. Good luck!

Anything anyone can tell me about the Air Force Nursing Program!?

We Answered:

You're probably just going to be a medic. Being a nurse requires a BA and you would be 2nd LT. officer in which you would've went to college for. Which is why you won't have a career title as a nurse. Talk to your recruiter and find out more they'll be the best way to get all the answers to your questions. It's part of their job.
