Army Nursing Careers

How does an Army ROTC 4-year nursing scholarship work?

We Answered:

you would attend school full time while participating in ROTC.. which is typically one extra class a week and some extra physical fitness requirements. at the end, once you have your BSN you are commissioned as an Officer( either O1 or O2, I forget which) and must serve a grand total of 8 years of service.. at least 4 of which will be Active duty.

IRR means you do not drill, or ever have to wear the uniform, but once a year you must muster and let them knowyou are still alive. during your IRR you may be recalled back to Active duty.

If you opt for Guard or Reserves, then you will join a Unit and drill with them once a month plus 2 weeks of annual training a year, plus the possibility of activation for deployment.

Plan on getting into nursing school after Army?

We Answered:

The Army does have a nursing course that is offered for enlisted. It is the 68WM6, but the selection for school is limited based on needs of the Army. You would need to check with a recruiter to see if it is being offered to new enlistees.

And if you think living with your parents is restrictive, don't go in the Army. Basic is 10 weeks of lock-down with total control. Advanced Individualized Training length depends on the schooling you opt for. In some places it is not as bad as Basic, some it is just as bad. Then you go to your permanent party duty station, and how it is there depends on the people. Some are okay, and some try to be very controlling.

Air force vs army nursing?

We Answered:

I'm going to have to disagree with USAF on this one. The nurses at Balad Air Base etc are getting plenty of experience. Wilford Hall also has programs specifically geared towards that. The Air Force mission has changed since USAF was in. I would also like to point out that the Air Force recently appointed a nurse Colonel to MG (she skipped BG, which I didn't even know you could do.)

Yes, the Air Force will pay for your masters.. . you are expected to start working on it by the time you sew on first Lieutenant. OR and nurse anesthetists programs are competitive.

As A Career, is Army Nursing or Navy Nursing better?

We Answered:

I would think that nursing in either branch would be the same. just would depend on which service you want.

But I do have to say that the nurses ROCK !!!

Was in for over 6 mo with injuries and the nurse made life better !!

Nursing in College and Army Career Afterwards?

We Answered:

you need a 4 year degree to be an officer..Infantry or otherwise.

if you do not use your nursing skills for your commissioned career you will most likley atrophy and will need to go back for refresher training afterward. plus you will be behind th ecurve when it come sot current advances in the field.

it woudl be most likley a waste to get a BSN then become an Infantry officer. why not get a degree in something else first then get your BSN after you complete you military service?

What part of the NMC is a Dip He Nursing Studies Qualification?

We Answered:

Just to clarify on the first answer. The diploma does make the questioner a qualified nurse. There are two routes into nursing, diploma or degree & both make you a qualified nurse upon completion.

To the questioner, I would contact the NMC & ask them for the correct advice if I were you.
