As In Nursing

Holly Said:

I am willing to work as nursing aide in Australia, can i work there?I took my nursing board exam last june2008

We Answered:

As we don't have Nursing Aides in Australia anymore the closest thing would be a PCA or Personal Care Attendant.
These are Certificate 111 Aged Care workers and ONLY work in Aged Care.

I am assuming you are American?

If you come to Australia to work as a PCA you DO NOT HAVE TO REGISTER as ONLY Nurse's who hold full qualifications need to register.
At the moment PCA are NOT considered Nusre's and so therefore need not register in their respective working State.

As you don't need to register all you need to do is directly apply for a PCA position at any Nursing Home that you wish to work at.
There is a massive chance you will get a job as there is a massive shortage of ALL Health Care workers.

As a PCA you can also work for Agencies to work in private homes.

Hugh Said:

what is the difference between AS and AAS in nursing?

We Answered:

Usually the AS is the transferrable degree. Discuss this matter with your academic counselor at your college.

Christopher Said:

What is the difference between AS vs AAS in nursing?

We Answered:

I would take a guess that the AAS (being in "pre-nursing") covers all the prerequisites required for transferring right into a BSN program, while the ASN is what I have.......a year of prerequisites and one and a half years of nursing courses. After completing the ASN, you are eligible to take the NCLEX and be an RN. With the AAS at your college, it appears you earn an Associate Degree, but all your classes are general ed (English, social sciences, speech, math, biological sciences, and some liberal arts/humanities, too. That way, you go directly into a BSN program at a university or 4-year college.

Your best bet is to call the school and speak to an advisor about it...all schools have specific programs and requirements.

Discuss It!
