Become A Nurse

What are some things that people would recommend for a person that is studying to become a nurse? We Answered:
There are lots of options out there for nursing, it's a great field for job security and can be really rigorous.(1) Try to get hands on experience
Community colleges usually have practical courses or Nursing Assistant Programs. This is a great way to earn money while you are doing undergrad while testing the waters. My mom's a nurse and she says that there are some nursing homes that will take you through the assistant training for free. So look around your area for the options.
Basically, make sure it's a good choice for you through experiencing it firsthand.
Try volunteering, too.
-nursing homes
-hospitals
-clinics
-health related centers: campus health center health education programs, planned parenthood, HIV Alliance centers, non-profit clinics... etc...
(2) See what kind of health-professions clubs are on your campus, they can be really helpful as far as pointing out volunteer opportunities and places to get experience.
Or start one yourself!
(3) Get in touch with an advisor who can help you on campus, whether it's a professional advisor or someone in your major or minor
(4) Biochemistry is a great major for pre-nursing. As is human physiology.

does my hearing loss prevents me to become a nurse anesthetic? We Answered:
Of course you can. I am officially deaf (compete loss in left ear and 80% loss in my right ear) I can hear a little and with a hearing aid assisted by lip-reading I can communicate quite well. I've been nursing for many years in fact I'm due to retire in 2010. If you wanna be a nurse Go For It :-)Christina Said:

What do you think of men entering nursing, specifically become nurse anesthetists? We Answered:
I think it is totally fine, this is happening all the time. Remember half of the patients are men and many men feel more comfortable with a male nurse or an anesthetist.
