Career Goals In Nursing

Felix Said:

Would getting an associates degree in pre medical be the same as getting one in nursing?

We Answered:

Nope. Completely and utterly different degrees. A nursing degree will prepare you for practical nursing skills. An associates in pre-medical would mostly teach you biology and theory that would prepare you for a medical degree. There might be some basic medicine involved, but it is primarily an academic degree, not a practical "on the job" kind of training like nursing. In the end, you won't make any money at all off an associates degree in pre-med. It is practically useless without further studies. So, as a nursing degree will actually get you a job, I'd have to say it will pay more!

p.s. If you want to be a doctor, the best thing you can do is go straight to university, get in a four-year pre-med program, and ride it out. Nursing will be a good experience, but it will simply be putting off your doctoral career. You'll still have to do the pre-med stuff, in addition to the nursing. There will be a little overlap, but not a lot. Ultimately it is two completely different job tracks.

Deanna Said:

Okay...when two people have different career goals, can the relationship still work?

We Answered:

The military life is a hard one, true, but it takes a special person to dedicate their life to such a noble cause. I applaud you wife for her dedication and hope that you would find it in your heart to do what so many other military spouses do day in and day out.... support your spouse and love them unconditionally. There will be a time when war is over and things will get back to normal and all the hard work these men and women will be all worth it. They need families to come back to that are proud of them.

Yes, family comes first, but there is no family if we are not safe. I too hate the fact that my husband is missing out on our two little boys' changes and accomplishments and I so wish I could have my husband in bed with me every night... But as that bumper sticker says "Freedom is not Free" and I am proud that my sons will know that their Daddy is making sure that they are free to do what they wish with their lives and worship as they see fit.

"Go play GI Joe"? It's way more than that....

Maureen Said:

Is Nashville a good place to live and work?

We Answered:

Nashville's a wonderful city. It's pretty clean and the people are friendly. You can almost normally find a job in what particularly interests you. If you want to be a songwriter/producer, I would suggest Memphis, TN, though. Nashville may be the home of Country Music, but not many hopefuls come from there. Memphis is a better place if you want to be a songwriter- they're more open to it. The reason not many hopefuls come from Nashville is because there are already several country music stars that moved to Nashville (Keith Urban, Kellie Pickler, Tim McGraw, etc) so they want more proffessionals working in Nashville. Memphis, though, has open arms.

Medical Career Goals?

We Answered:

Yes, it's possible and you should major in nursing.

Freddie Said:

Teens, what are your academic/career goals(:?

We Answered:

Well I recently applied to transfer to CSULA but my school of preference is CSULB as well. It's a REALLY competitive school for nursing so make sure your GPA is above a 3.5 and your science classes are A's or B's. I want to be an RN specializing in neonatal or cancer as well!! Weird. It's because my grandparents died of cancer, so it hits close to home. I'll find out if I got accepted into CSULA for Fall 2009 next week!!!! Wish me luck! And good luck to you as well...maybe I will see you in the Nursing program.
