i don't know what its at now, but when i graduated in 2007, civil was one of the higher paid engineering jobs (not the highest, i think chemical was the highest). but I have a BS in civil and went into the construction side and started at 52,000. not too bad i think.

Browse, read, there are certainly tons of data on the internet. See the pros and cons, although nothing can replace the talk with the real people. Try to go to the hospital, bug them, try to get as much info from people actually doing those jobs. Considering the pay, check out the ads, see what is on offer, and what are the propositions (there are tons of local hospital jobs on, well, http://www.localhospitaljobs.com/ ).
