Career Opportunities For Registered Nurses

Claire Said:

What's a What's a more lucrative career? RN or CPA?

We Answered:

You seem to be quite interested in money...I would suggest you stay with a career where you not only make money, you work with it, instead of a career where you make money and work with people that need care for the illness, injury, or with transitions in life.
You already have a degree with a financial concentration...use that to your advantage. Make it lucrative!!

Be a C.P.A., not a nurse!!

P.S. Would your Mom really want to be cared for when she was sick or hurt by someone who was motivated to be a nurse by the income?

Patsy Said:

Should I pursue nursing as a career?

We Answered:

I have been an RN for 36+ years, and would recommend anyone who has a personality as you describe to look into a Nursing career. It is an excellent profession, and I have never regretted becoming an RN. I also was glad to see you want to do it at the BSN level, which is how I entered the field. It really is the best way for more reasons than I can list!!! The idea to study Spanish is an excellent one too! Ironically I had 4 years of Latin and then lived three years in Italy after graduating. I became fluent in Italian fast because of the Latin background, and in the end it has helped me the rest of my career in a heavily Spanish speaking populous state where I work. I do Home Health Care and am the only Nurse fluent enough to manage our Spanish speaking patients without a translator. As for your Senior year, if the intensive vocational center is Truly preparing you for a health care career at a higher level than a Certified Nursing Assistant, do it. It will have math and science as part of it for sure since it is basic to all the health care professions at the Bachelor's or above. Otherwise a good Algebra Class, Biology and Chemistry would be better preparation. Good Luck with your aspirations.

I would be happy to try to help, but what is your question? Do you want someone to proofread this paper or add to it? Let me know and I will see if I can help.

Sue Said:

How are male Registered Nurses perceived in the Medical world and society in general?

We Answered:

I'm not sure who's working with me tomorrow, but in my ER, nearly half the nursing staff are men, and nobody considers anything they do effeminate.
The science courses for the BSN are almost all different from those required for medical school admissions, though, and though it's counter-intuitive, nursing is actually one of the least compatible programs with pre-med, so be very careful about the pre-requisites.

Diane Said:

Do nurses draw blood?

We Answered:

Honestly, in most hospitals nurses don't really draw blood or start IV's. Many nursing programs don't even teach students phlebotomy, because most hospitals have medical technicians that draw blood and start the IV's.
