Certified Nursing Assistant Career

Connie Said:

Which is the better, higher paying career,Phlebotomy or CNA(Certified Nurses Assistant)?

We Answered:

Well, if you are a CNA, you're likely going to be employed in a nursing home, doing the basic stuff like vital signs and changing bedpans. If you work as a phlebotomist, you will likely end up in a lab or plasma center (blood bank donation) setting drawing blood from patients and clients. I would see what local hospitals require for employment as a patient care tech. We have those in my hospital and they not only do stuff like vital signs, patient transport, and meal delivery, they also are given training in blood draws and doing (NOT interpreting) EKGs. Most of our younger nurses started off in these positions. I'm in a Great Lakes state and our techs start off at 10 dollars an hour, plus evening/night and weekend bonuses...compared to starting RN pay of around 22 an hour.

Samuel Said:

How many of you took a certified nurses assistant course and decided to pursue a LPN or RN career?

We Answered:

I am a CNA and Ekg tech. I decided to go for my RN. I am not through with my RN yet. but I am glad I became a CNA before I went for my RN.I think it is a rewarding career as long as your in it for the right reasons. God Bless!
