Certified Nursing Assistant Careers

Jorge Said:

what is the difference between a certified nursing assistant (CNA) and a medical assistant? (MA)?

We Answered:

A CNA is a 'Certified Nursing Assistant' that takes a state exam and is regulated by the State Board of Nursing.

An MA is a degree awarded by the college that has the program, has no state exam or regulation, and is not a recognized profession by any board of nursing in any state.

Robin Said:

Interested in Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), what can you tell me?

We Answered:

I am currently going to school to become a nurse. after high school i got my certified to become a CNA. I was working in a nursing home, and now i am at the hospital. its a lot of work :) not near as much as the nurse tho. you'll have days where you hate it...n others where you love it! You would be cleaning a lot of butts :) Doing what the nurse may ask of you..simple tasks. You would chart..assist any patients or residents with any needs (feeding, bathing ect.). You will need a lot of patience also :) You don't get a degree for a CNA. u get a certificate..my class took about 4 weeks, everyday. 8-5. i think it was about $600. but its worth it. you make that back quick when u get a job. a good thing about it would be seeing if nursing is really what u wanted to do. its a great way to see what the nurse does. you would find out if it was worth switching. i would recommend it. good luck!

plus...there are soo many types of nurses. you could branch out to a lot of different types of nursing jobs. im going for psych nurse!

What are the usual duties of a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant)?

We Answered:

I have worked as a qualified CNA for 16 yrs.
It is a great rewarding job but very hard work.
If you work with HIGH CARE and DEMENTIA patients well then you will always works in pairs.....which is great.
You wash and dress residents....document their daily medical history...report any changes to the nurse in charge....she relies on you totally.....you feed those who are unable and chat with those of sound mind but poor bodies....they LOVE you!!!
I have always found that this job always attracts a great type of person...empathetic and kind and careing.....so you work with a lot of great friends....(well most of them !!)
I am always amazed at the age of a lot of the workers....it is admirable that the YOUTH get in there and do their careing bit for humanity.
GOOD LUCK...you will love it.and there is no end to the hours you can do...........you will NEVER be out of work.
My course took 6 mths part time and you can work while you do the course.Once an institution knows you are enrolled they will employ you.

I am a certified nursing assistant now and I wanted to get a different job?

We Answered:

You might be interested in jobs where you can still work in a hospital setting, just not with patients so much. There are unit secretaries, intake specialists, business office for records or billing, or maybe even dental assistant.

Darlene Said:

How do i take my experience as a certified nursing assistant (cna) and put it in a resume to change fields.?

We Answered:

The first thing to do is make an inventory of your transferable skills. To do this exercise, you need some quiet, pad of paper and your thinking cap. Here is what you do.

List all of the task and responsibilities you have handled while being a nursing assistant. Once you have that list, review it carefully and then line by line consider "THE BENEFIT YOUR PATIENT OF EMPLOYER RECEIVED" from each of the activities.

From this completed inventory, you'll be able to write a resume that is so much more than just an outline of where you have been. Transferable skills are the goal here. For example I would guess that a nursing assistant can handle:

Crisis management - ability to make rapid decisions and seek qualified guidance when situations suddenly change.

Keen prioritizing skills. Ability to prioritize multiple activities and events against the backdrop of mission critical environment.

Do you see the direction this is going? Good luck.

Which career choice would be more rewarding and beneficial- Certified Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Tech?

We Answered:

depends on what job you want and the qualifications required for the job. these types of jobs are often stepping stones to a better paying job in the medical field. visit a counselor at your local community college. pay is dependent on your location, experience, and education.
