Degree In Nurse

Cathy Said:

How Do I Become an Associate Degree Nurse?

We Answered:

Go online to find your local schools that offer nursing as an AS. Many have a list of prerequisite courses such as chemistry and biology, you need to complete these courses before you can even apply to the program.

Once you apply, expect to be on a waiting list based on your GPA. Most of the people I know that are in it waited at least a year before being accepted, but in that time nothing prevents you from taking any non-nursing courses the degree may require. Another problem is if you are accepted and cannot meet all the lab fee's by their deadline, expect to wind up back on the waiting list as they give your place to someone who can pay. So... step by step:

Find your closest school offering it (even if some courses are online the labs will require your presence) and enroll in the prerequisite courses.

Apply to the program, but consider retaking classes you could have done better in, getting some of the general courses out of the way, and possibly some that will focus on your specialty (psychology, gerontology, childhood development).

Wait to be picked based on your GPA and lottery, but ensure you have the available program fees set aside for when you are picked.

Thats it! Hopefully its easier where you live, otherwise you are looking at at least 2 1/2 years of school plus a waiting list.
