Different Types Of Nursing Careers
Alicia Said:
What are some good careers in the heathcare field? We Answered:
There are so many different types of nurses. If you become a Registered Nurse, there are many careers you can jump into, and so many areas you can specialize in. You can Specialize in anything form neonatology to geriatrics, and you can work in a hospital, clinic, or private office. If you want to do pathology, go ahead. It's your choice in the end, though with a bachelor's you would have more options.Neil Said:
Different types of music careers, Any ideas? We Answered:
I suggest that you take an aptitude test. An aptitude test assesses your musical skills and your interests and matches you to the careers that are right for you.Hope this helps.Dustin Said:
Different types of nurses who work in hospitals? We Answered:
In the US you can become an RN in as little as 2 years with an associates degree, if you can though do a 4 year degree and get your BS, it makes getting a job easier. 6 years will get you a masters degree. If you want to go to university for 6 years and want to work with a variety of people get your MSN Master's of Science Nursing and become of FNP or family nurse practitioner, you will do many things that a doctor will do and will prescribe medications. You probably won't work in a hospital then, but you will work with babies from new born to the elderly.
I worked as a nurse in hospital, you would probably work with one type of patients in a larger hospital (like you could work on the heart surgery pre and post op floor with adults), but my sister is an FNP and works with all sorts of patients, she works 4 days a week, 10 hours a day, and finds work very rewarding personally.
The only type of nurse in a large hospital that I can think of who works with all age groups would be the IV therapy nurses and the float nurses, float nurses fill in sick calls on any floor, and IV therapy nurses establish IV access. Both of those positions can be a downer though, because you don't have regular coworkers, also you could not do those jobs straight out of school, most hospitals will want you to have 1-2 years experience before they will have you float.
There are other specialty 6 year Masters degree nurses like Certified Nurse Midwives, but that would pigeon hole you to mothers and babies.
Right now pay is good for nurses and pay will continue to be good for FNPs because there is a developing shortage of general practice doctors, like the kind you go to for your yearly physical and such.
I suggest you check out the ANA American Nurses Association, I believe they have a section for people considering nursing. It is good that you are stepping up on the science, nursing school is not a breeze and you will also need to be confident in your chemistry.
Good luck!

Anybody know anything about nursing school? We Answered:
Hi Bradley,Okay I am assuming PNA is similar to CNA and makes the least amount of money. It is basically a nurse assistant job where you perform the simple but exhausting tasks of changing beds and diapers and cleaning up patients. An Lpn or LVN is a nurse with some limitations on license, for example in MO cannot hang blood or give IV push medications. The programs are usually about 1 yr and the cost varies but in St. Louis where I live are $23-26k for a 1 yr program.
If you have the time and the money RN school is the best option off the bat. It lasts from 2-4 yrs and make the most money. The schooling is rigorous and expensive, again dependant on which school you choose. The programs usually require Hs chemistry and algebra 1. If you dont have these you might elect to go to your local community college and complete Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2, and Algebra class, along with psychology and sociology would get you a head start. Community Colleges typically are cheaper and also are decent programs. Look in your local phone book for nursing schools.
Most nurses that specialize in something do so after school and taking the NCLEX, board exam for thier licensure. Good luck and if you have more questions email me.
