Derrick Said:
How can I get a nursing job in massachusetts if I am a senior in high school soon to be college freshman? We Answered:
you can talk to your college counsler and ask if there is an intership you can take on at a local hospital. Or you can call the hospitals in your area and ask if there are jobs, internships or anything you can get going for yourself before you start college. These are long shots. Usually they offer these kinds of programs to you when you have a couple years of college under your belt. Or equivilent in a private program for nurses.
Best wishes and good luck to you and bright future always.
Some hospitals do offer office type jobs or simple nurse jobs, (Like running back and forth grabbing supplies for doctors and stuff.) That is a great way to break into your career and give yourself a hands-up!

ROTC Army Nursing Corps?We Answered:
To be a Nurse in the Army or any branch of the military that has a Nurse Corps, you must go to civilian Nursing school at a university and graduate with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. Then you pass your Nursing Licensure exam. AFter you graduate with your degree and have your nursing license, then you are eligible to apply for a commission to be a Nurse in the military. You would have to go to civilian nursing school because none of the branches educate or train you to be a nurse. The Army has an ROTC scholarship program that will help pay the costs of Nursing school. I don't think any of the ROTC programs cover every single cost associated with your education though, but any little bit helps, right? I don't know of any ROTC scholarships for community colleges...it is my undersanding that these are limited to university-level during your junior and senior years (when you are actually taking your core Nursing classes). Please check me on that with your local schools that have nursing and ROTC programs.
If you aren't able to get an ROTC scholarship, then know that the Army has what is called Health Professional Student Loan Repayment...this benefit will pay for up to $50,000 in federal student loans if you need to take out loans to pay for Nursing school.
Or you can enlist in the Army for one of the enlisted health care jobs. The one people hear of most are medics (the actual term is Health Care Specialist), but to get that job you have to score very well on the ASVAB. Talk to an Army recruiter for the specifics. After your enlistment, then you can use your education benefits (GI Bill) to help pay for Nursing School. You have options, so take the time to consider what works best for you. Good luck! The Army is always in need of good and motivated Nurses in our ranks.

Can I be a paramedic while attending nursing school? We Answered:
Generally, paramedics work rolling blocks--24 on, 24 off for 3 on then 4 off, in a set schedule. That is what makes it so hard to work around nursing clinicals--you can't just pick your 10 shifts anywhere you want them. Also, if you are on a call and can't get out to your nursing clinical (which may start even before you got off shift); you would be quickly dropped from the program. You can not go from a 24 shift on, to a 8 hour nursing, back to a 24 hour shift for very long either. I suggest working as a paramedic for a few years and save up enough $ to quit by the time you are in nursing clinicals. But, you might in fact enjoy being on a RA and not want to quit! Their schedules are pretty good, the pay is very good & the retirement (if you are with a fire dept or the city) can NOT be beat by anyone except the police. Its also very interesting!

Nurse or Veterinarian, I really need help!?We Answered:
in the long run, being a vet is going to get you much much better pay than being a nurse, so i would reccomend becoming a vet. but, if nursing suits you more, go for it! the highest paid nurses are nurse anesthetists, which are the nuse version of an anesthesiologist. an exciting nurse job would definitely be an emergency room nurse. to me, i think it would be exciting to be a nurse at a pediatric (kids) hospital. it really depends on what you like the most, really, and what you like to see.
