Forensic Nursing Career

Tammy Said:

What nursing degree should I obtain?

We Answered:

All of the nursing programs that I have heard of require a Bachelors in Nursing to get into a Masters of Nursing program. If you do go for a MSN degree, Nurse Anesthetist probably gets paid the most.

Margie Said:

which career best describes you forensic , correction or nurse?

We Answered:

I'm not sure what you are asking. Can you please explain?

Katherine Said:

What is the career outlook and reality on Forensic Nursing?

We Answered:

YOu do know what a forensic nurse does, don't you? It is not CSI--they do rape kit exams, etc. For the most part, these nurses have a "regular" day job and are on call for a case that needs them. You usually do not do this full time as there aren't that many cases at any one time. The career outlook for nurses in general is good.

Laura Said:

I am taking Spanish, will it really help my career in the long run?

We Answered:

Yes. If you were on a scene one day you might have to translate a little bit or something. I'm only 16 and all the time I have to translate and I'm not out in public very often. As more Spanish speaking people come to this country it gets more important to know their language.

Willie Said:

What can i major in if i want to be a forensic nurse?

We Answered:

Nowadays, many medical examiners in large cities hire a forensic nurse. We like for them to have an RN and have a few years of clinical nursing before applying. In our office, we provided the additional training, which also involved her becoming a commissioned police officer, so she carries a sidearm when on duty.

Stephen Said:

Should I go into Nursing or Forensic Studies?

We Answered:

Forensics isn't anywhere near as glamorous as it looks on CSI, and you need your masters (and sometimes even a PhD) to do anything in that field. It also doesn't pay much, at all. It's very much a labour of love.
Go into the RN program, and from there you can branch into forensics and labwork if that's what you desire. You can't branch into nursing from forensics, however.
An RN can make $86,000 the year he/she graduates, why WOULDN'T you want to be a nurse?
You can literally do anything with it, and you can go anywhere in the world and ALWAYS have a job.
As far as jobs go, nursing pays more, is more stable, and is more rewarding. You can also do anything with it once you're a nurse.
