if nursing is what you want to do then do it. It will always be in demand. With this d@mn health care crap in play, they might cut pay. Sure more people, but it's basically medicaid for all. Medicare pays like sh!t. Therefore hospitals make less. They can't pay too little though or the hospitals will lose nurses. But keep in mind try to work for a private hospital. They can accept or decline any insurance they want. So besides in the er where you have to stabilize any and all patients, regardless of pay, the private hospitals and md offices will possibly/probably refuse or limit the number of patients with this government insurance.

Don't change what you want to do or become because of what might happen. Who knows, obama may be voted out next election and the new president might veto this health care plan. And things will be back to normal. If you want to be a nurse, then do it. If you change to do something else because of this you might not be as happy.

It's loaded with the govt. programs that the Dems have wanted. Pet projects. Pork. There is NOTHING to directly help the economy in general. If they REALLY wanted to stimulate and grow the economy, they'd cut corp. tax rates, capital gains, payroll taxes. That would have an immediate effect.
But, that's not their intention. It's their chance to grow the govt. power over the individual.

The general procedures should be the same, however it may vary some by the individual school district that an assistant is employed. I believe the major factors granting or approving a career leave, and having the the position upon returning from the leave would be based upon: 1. The assistant job status; which must be permanent with benefits, 2. There is a clause in the employers benefits guidelines stating that it is permissible for employees classified as assistants to request a leave of absence from their job. (There are various types of leaves.) The school district am employed with does permit assistants to take leaves and offer other benefits that teachers receive. The collective bargaining unit for classified employees usually piggy back or more clearly stated follow the teachers (fringe benefits) collective bargaining unit. Several years ago my district offered a program paying assistants tuition fees and other related college fees to attend college to obtain a teaching credentail.

As crummy as it may be, you'll probably have to wait for the results of the review board. Unfortunately I've never heard of a government review being completed in a timely manner. I guess just keep pestering them for updates to avoid having your file swept under a rug somewhere.

You do have to undergo extensive criminal backround checks to get into nursing school or work in a hospital in any capacity, so depending on why you are dishonorably discharged this may or may not be a problem. Offenses that bar you are: drugs, violence, and theft generally.
