Holistic Nursing Careers

Andrea Said:

what is the difference between Holistic Dr.,Naturopathic,Herbologist,Herbalist,H…

We Answered:

I know that herbs and natural cure schemes are really popular right now but that doesn't mean that they are effective or a useful tool in making people healthier. You should not rule out being a nurse. Nurses are wonderful people and much of the medical industry could not possibly function without them. It's an honorable profession that helps people and pays well. Being an herbalist, holistic healer, or naturopath is the medical equivalent of a used car salesman.

June Said:

Whats your opinion? Do you choose a career based on salary and security or what you love to do?

We Answered:

Get a job that pays well and is stable. You will always have after work and the weekend to do what you love. It is a good feeling to be able to pay your bills and feel secure.

Miriam Said:

Can a man be a Registered Nurse? Is a Public health educator same as an RN?

We Answered:

There are certainly plenty of male nurses and as for public health, there are nurses that work in community or public health. And there are programs for those that would like to obtain their master's degree in public health (MPH) which can only be an asset. If you would like to get your RN and also work in holistic health, perhaps you can also look into a certification program for massage therapy or such.

Benjamin Said:

HELP! I've been an RN for 14 yrs and I can't take the stress anymore. I need guidance to change careers.

We Answered:

I don't know what state you are from, but I know that in the area of Central Cal where I live there are many different opportunities for RNs. You said you have tried different areas, and that is good, however, if you did decide on a career change I do not think you could find an entry level career offering anything approaching the salary you now earn. My sister is an RN and she worked in a local hospital and like you did not like the hours, stress or conditions. About a year ago she went to work as an RN in the California State Prison system and seems to really enjoy her job now. Much less stress and much higher pay. I know the prisons are always looking for qualified RNs. Good Luck in whatever you decide.

Sidney Said:

Who has ever heard of a college that will give me a degree as a holistic, christian psychologist?

We Answered:

First of all, you are a little confused, since you started out by asking about psychologists, and then talked about psychiatrists. They are not the same thing, and a psychologist cannot prescribe anything at all. Only a psychiatrist is a physician, who may prescribe, and most psychiatrists only prescribe medications when they believe they are necessary.

If you are looking for a medical school, you don't have many good Christian options (Baylor, in Texas, is the only one I'm aware of, and when I Googled it, I didn't get any others), and medical school is so difficult to get into, that you would almost certainly need to apply broadly and go wherever you get in, not to the "perfect school". If you want a degree in psychology, which is a very different thing, a number of Christian universities have psychology programs. I don't know what type of Christianity you prefer, but you could look at schools within your particular denomination to see if they do.

Ana Said:

Options: Chiropractic or Nursing?

We Answered:

I'm admittedly a little biased since I'm an RN. But have you considered getting the BSN and then focus on earning certification in Complementary / Integrative Therapies or Holistic nursing, which can include massage, acupuncture / acupressure, healing touch, aromatherapy, guided imagery, yoga, tai chi, and other methods to aid in healing? Some more progressive hospitals have whole programs dedicated to providing their patients with these services as a routine part of their care and employ a whole host of various practitioners of these many specialties.
