Hospice Rn Jobs

Juanita Said:

Starting nursing school: LPN first or straight to RN?

We Answered:

Go straight for RN. I was not in the position to at the the time I went to school, and believe me, I wish I was. As the people said above, we, as LPNs are not used as true Nurses unless the RNs are shorthanded and the lack of respect is more than present if you work in a hospital. (although the workload is just about the same)! Its motivation for me to finish, but if you can, go straight for RN, you will not regret it!!!!!!!

We Answered:

I believe the traveling nurses are paid very well.

Is this normal for a hospice nurse?

We Answered:

Your mom isn't that old. For a nurse she's actually had so much experience that this new job seems like she needs to start over again. Nursing has a high burn out especially Hospice. She's needs to feel comfortable enough to ask before she will though. Nursing can be a very competitive field too. This is because those that are just starting out believe that they've learned all the new techniques and feel some of their senior staff worker's ways are out dated. So many times the trifle things that are discussed should be left in a school classroom and not in a hospital setting. Now that she is in a different setting you might be able to talk to her in a different way. Try asking her to see if she could find out if they do certain things there that they don't usually refer to in a hospital setting. Find out what the differences are and maybe you can help her by being their to talk to, even if it's over the phone. Since her colleagues are aware of how hard she's working why not see if their is someway you can ask them how you can try to help her. I agree that she might be at the breaking point too. The job itself tells you that. Being adequate is nothing like being thorough, and she needs to learn the difference in these their at her newer job before she completely burns out. Then there truly be no breadwinner either, and maybe putting things that way will finally pull her through. Please tell her and don't ask anymore. Tell her what you feel she's doing and all the above reasons why too. Then remember that sometimes just some added love from everyone can help mom pull through. One thing I can promise you is if she burns out here she won't get back up again. I just hope some of this helped the entire family get their mom back again. Good luck and God Bless

Should I go for this? (CNA + High school?) This is a long-looking one, but I'd appreciate any input.?

We Answered:

The vo-tech classes through high school are wonderful.. I say go for it!
I took Licensed Practical Nursing my senior year of high school, and finished it the following year. I am now a nurse at the age of 19, and have been for close to 8 months.
I'm working on classes to become an RN, am working in a hospital (mother-baby floor), and absolutely love what I do. I only had to pay a total of $6,000 including tuition, books, uniforms, etc (which is far cheaper than the $25,000) course offered at other places (which you can't even start until after you graduate high school).
I don't regret my decision at all, and I applaud you for thinking about beginning your healthcare career so early (and trust me, we need more nursing assistants).
Good luck with everything!

Maxine Said:

how many caregivers should work in an Adult Foster Home?

We Answered:

I would think you should have 2 people there at all times, and people really shouldn't be working more than 40 hours a week. Now maybe you get to sleep there as part of your shift? Are you paid hourly or by salary? If paid hourly I might really appreciate the extra money gained by just sleeping, esp. if there was overtime. Even at minimum wage (which is like $7.50 now?) that is good money. $720 base + 210 overtime = $930 a week. That to me would be great money, but depends on what you expect to be paid, and how much you could make elsewhere. Being completely away from home 4 days at a time would be hard, but again, the money may make it worth it.

I don't know about the laws of how many need to be on shift at anytime, but it does seem like you would really want 2 people there at all times. What would happen if you got sick for a week? I suppose her family could fill in?
