.....the American Association of Critical Care Nurses have quite a bit of good reading material to digest in the study of their certification process(C.C.R.N.) which you should find useful......also obtain(if you have'nt already) the study guide/handbook from the AHA's Advanced Cardiac Life Support guidelines and begin preparation for A.C.L.S. certification.......if you need help and understanding with cardiac rhythms and EKG interpretation, I recommend Dale Dubin's "Rapid Interpretation of EKG's" which "I cut my teeth on" more years ago than I care to admit(it's information is easy to digest and remains relavant and useful to date)......last but certainly not least, feel out the expierenced and tallented nurses in your area, find one in which you communicate with well and who is interested in sharing his/her knowledge, and don't be afraid to lean on that person for guidance and support........(oh yea, hang in there, don't get overwhelmed by knowledge noone was born knowing and is certainly not taught in nurse's school, and you'll do fine!!!!!).......best of luck to you in your career...........

Some might hire new grads but as you're finding most do not, so you'll have to do some time in a regular medical / surgical unit and then move into critical care when you aren't so new.

Try everywhere: nursing homes and other long term care facilities, hospitals, doctor's offices, home care, clinics. Apply to places even if they aren't actively advertising the "Now Hiring" sign. Be willing to work nights or graveyard and having flexible availability helps.

San Diego is a good place to work. I lived there for almost 30 years. where there is a populated area there are alot of oppertunities. My boss at one time actually worked at Hillcrest receiving home. I would reccommend talking more to your husband as there may be more oppertunities for him there also
