Jobs Registered Nurse

Jenny Said:

Is it much harder for a Registered Nurse to be hired in a school or clinic than it is a hospital?

We Answered:

Depends on the clinic. Many clinics do not use RNs at all; so your choices may be more limited. School nurses require additional training & certification. And, the days of a full time school nurse at every school are gone--so again, there are more limited jobs available than at a hospital. Also consider that "plush" nursing jobs have far less turn-over than the harder ones. You will need experience from a hospital setting before you start looking for these jobs, it just may take time.

Darrell Said:

What jobs can you get or do as a registered nurse?

We Answered:

I think nursing is wonderful, however, yes, you see some crazy stuff in hospitals that are hard to handle. I am personally, one of the most soft-hearted, emotional (not crazy tho!) type of person, it's hard for me to even watch gore on TV.... but yes, I got used to the blood and sticking after awhile. HOWEVER, I am also a very anxious person, and honestly, that never really goes away for me. For example.. I will feel a little nervous in the morning unil I start getting into the swing of things, no matter how long I've done it or had needle stuck in me, I just get a little bit anxious.
So, just being honest, everyone is different.
Nursing has so many areas of interest tho! If hospital settings don't work for you, you might be able to dial it down a bit and work in a general practioners office... worst case senerio, all of it is too much, you could work in a medical spa and do laser treatments. I think that's cool! lol

Julian Said:

Can I become a registered nurse just by going to Jobs Corps?

We Answered:

Hi. I know for sure that a lot of Job Corps sites (physical sites, not web sites) offer Certified Medical Assistant courses, because my son is about to join them. And I know that when you graduate, they assist you in finding a job. (No guarantees!) Don't believe they offer registered nurse training, but becoming a CMA is a good start. If you haven't already spoken with a Job Corps counselor, I recommend it. It's an unbelievably excellent opportunity. Good luck!
