This is really dependent on where you live. The East and West Coast makes the most (I heard in NY that new grad RN's start off at $60,000) where the midwest and the south make far less (I would say starting 30's to 40's).

Go to salary.com and type in your state to find out.

It does matter if you are an RN vs. an LPN/LVN (Registered vs. Licensed Practical/Vocational). RN's get paid more because they can do more and have the education.

Bachelor and Master degrees do not necessarily command more money, but you can get better jobs with those degrees.

i used to work for the 3rd largest hospital in Hawaii... Hawaii has a severe shortage of nurses (RNs & LPNs) for the past 20 years and we always had to recruit nurses from the states every single year... in addition to competitive pay, we also have to offer free transportation to Hawaii, free housing, extended vacation with pay.

There are so many different fields...each bringing their own rewards....I myself like the nursing home..related to the fact that bringing comfort to someones last years or helping those rehabilitate to return home is very rewarding..plus unlike a hospital i get to know my patients and family.
One never really knows what area they will enjoy until it is experienced....when you do your clinicals is there an area that intrest you more? that might help you pick a place to start...but dont get frustrated if you think you might like somewhere and find that it isnt for you ..... you will find your place and will love it......... nursing gets frustrating, heartbreaking,exahusting, but the lives we all touch in the process is priceless.

they are called pre-natal nurses. they have to become a nurse and then specialize in prenatal.

Nursing Anesthetists. They make over $100,000/year. After you get your BSN then you go to school for a couple more years.
