Kinds Of Nursing Careers

Allison Said:

Quick question about the nursing field... easy 10 points?

We Answered:

My wife and I both got our LPN first then transitioned into an RN and now she is working on her MSN

Lucille Said:

I'm thinking of going to school to be a nurse but I can't figure out what kind of nurse is best for me.

We Answered:

I am currently attending school to become an RN (Registered Nurse). I suggest you research heavily to get a feel for what you may or may not want to do. That is what I did before I decided to go to school. You could also volunteer at a hospital or "shadow" nurses to get an idea of what their job is like.

The different types include:
CNA (certified nurse assistant)
PCT (patient care technician)
AUA (authorized unlicensed assistant)
LPN (licensed practical nurse)
RN

While those are the basics (ranking from lowest to highest), there are also specialties that can be obtained. When you say that you would like to work with kids, then something in Pediatrics might be well suited for you. There are different ways of interacting with patients and you may not necessarily have to deal with the real "sick" children. There are many other ways to help them. Good luck with whatever you choose. With nursing, I do not believe you can go a "wrong" way.

what kind of nursing career should i pursue...?

We Answered:

Enter a Bachelors program..or even start off as an LPN. That's a 12 months program and you can be a nurse! :)
You don't have to pick a field in nursing..that's what is so great....unless you want your Masters..then I would definitely say to go for a midwifery program! We need SOOOO many people in that specialty, as well...and I personally would hire one over a doctor for efficiency and a special extra tough.
