Mental Health Nursing Jobs

Beth Said:

Will i get into uni to study mental health nursing with offenses on my CRB check

We Answered:

to be honest, if they don't ask, don't tell them.
and I'm not too sure about the guidelines on mental health working, but I'm sure that driving offenses shouldn't really be a problem. its usually only if you've been convicted of offenses that involve violence or sexual abuse that you can't work with vulnerable people (kids, the mentally unstable, the elderly etc.)
you shouldnt worry about it, im sure it wont be a problem.
and theyll see your fully capable of the work by looking at your past employment record.
good luck with the course

Dwayne Said:

Have you done a mental health nursing course? ?

We Answered:

Well everyone takes the same nursing program to work in a variety of places weather its a nursing home, health clinic, or psychiatric hospital. However, for most of the nursing programs, you intern with the hospital you want to work with. most have set up pre arangements as well with the school so that you get a job right out of graduation, since nursing is in high demand.

You would intern during the summer at a psychiatric hospital, or the psychiatric wing of the regular hospital, and be assigned to a patient. you will take notes, evaluate them, talk to them, and be there for them. Your teacher or instructor will monitor everyone from afar and also come talk to the patient and see what notes you have taken and basically if your doing a good job, then give you tips on what to do.

Its a very rewarding profession. i know about all this because my first psychiatric hospitalization, i woke up to a person in red introducing herself. i woke up and she followed me around, talked to me, really cared for me. made a good friend that day and got a lot of help. we even cried together when i explained my situation lol. i guess thats the thing you cant prepare for is the bonding with patients. but yeah, she was a nurse interning at the hospital.

Good luck. That nurse really saved my life. And im sure you will save someone's too.

Edit- Im pretty sure its roughly the same in all most countries. all college's have a nursing program i think

Mark Said:

just been sacked from my job as mental health nurse. any ideas on what i can do now?

We Answered:

Wow, that's quite harsh to be fired over one medication error, it must have been very serious.

I think there is a good possibility of still finding work. Not all nursing positions require passing medications, and if you're honest, there might be a facility out there willing to forgive this error if you can convince them that you understand how the error occurred and that you can assure them it won't happen in this new position.

I had a med error in nursing school. It wasn't horrible, the patient was totally fine. But I understand how these things can shake your confidence. You're only human, and surely you've learned from this and will be more diligent in the future.
Good luck to you.

Which nursing course should I do adult or mental health?

We Answered:

If you think you would enjoy adult health more then I would go for that one.I imagine mental health to be very stressful and hard going.I am not a nurse but I 've worked in a nursing home with patients who have dementia. That in it's self was very stressful. You need eyes in the back of your head.

Juan Said:

what is a hourly schedule to a mental health nurse job?

We Answered:

Many psychiatric hospitals work on the 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, 11pm-7am shift schedule. Some work the same shift five days a week, some work the same shift on weekends, some do three 12 hour, one 1/2 shift days a week. Some work several different shifts a week.
