Nurse Career Change
Tyler Said:
im 26 and i want a change of career. how do i become a nurse? We Answered:
Hello,(ANS) To change career and to move into working as a nurse requires that you study a nursing course at college or university i.e. a degree or diploma in nursing. This usually takes a couple of years and many nursing students also work in hospitals or care settings to gain both experience and help pay for their studies (its not an easy path).
**Also Nursing is a very large or wide ranging profession as there are many different types of nursing to choose from:- Paedatric nursing, General nursing, psychiatric nursing, critical care nursing on an ITU, Geriatric nursing, Orthopedic nursing etc its a long list.
**I think Nurses to a vital job and having nursed my own mother through x3 major operations in the last x3 years I think they can make ALL the difference to a persons life & well being.
**Its a hard job & nurses do some very dirty & very undignified tasks, but on the up side nurses do get to see the end result of a patient walking out of the hospital and returning home well again, so it does have its great rewards too.
Good Luck with that, kind regards from Ivan

am a registered nurse looking for a career change quickly any ideas? We Answered:
Health Educator, or Public Health Nurse. The general public needs the inofrmation that you think of as mundane. People do not know how to eat nutritious foods, do not know the outcomes of STD's, or unplanned pregnancies. Older people need your help, not only with these items, but somebody to look after them and check in on them, point them in the direction of services available to them. People who are low-income, mentally ill, and mentally retarded can all use your help. So I guess case management at the Health Department, Dept. of Social Servces, Community Services Board, Agency on Aging, and the list goes on and on. You could always start your own community coalition (which takes lots of work) or your own business contracting out for Health Education, even for hospitals. You could even become a professional trainer for nurses.I guess what I am trying to say, is that use your knowledge to continue to help others but in an envirnment where you can control your hours somewhat, and don't have to continually be on your feet. ( I wanted to go to nursing school, but because my service connected disability has to deal with my feet and knees, the V.A. would not pay for it BUT they are paying for me to major in Human Services with a minor in Community Health!)
Society needs us !!!

I'm thinking of a career change either as a pediatric nurse or as a teacher! Am really confused, pls help!?We Answered:
You might consider visiting a hospital and requesting to talk to a nurse or two who do work with children. Ask questions about what they like most and least about doing what they do. You might have to deal with families from time to time who are upset because their kids are sick but your compassion will help you deal with them appropriately.Good luck!

Career change from teaching to nurse.....?We Answered:
Of course! Many colleges offer non-traditional student plans to accomodate adult ed students. Depending on where you look, you may be able to find night classes where you could maintain family life, teaching job, etc, and work towards your new degree. The shelf life for a common profession ranges about 7 years. Of course we all know a few outliers--- perhaps one of your parents worked the same job for 30+ years or you have friends that change each month. It's not uncommon, though, to go back and grab that second degree if you find that's what you want.
All in all, life's too short to miss out on what matters. Though teaching can be a heroic job, so can nursing. And if you feel that's where you could feel more passionate, interested, or motivated, then go for it! Life's too short to stay locked in a profession where we feel we aren't able to actualize our potential.. just my 2 cents, though.
Good luck on your vocational endeavors!
