My wife is a RN. Has been for many years. There are many advantages but also disadvantages.
1. Advantages. It is pretty easy to get a job since nurses are in high demand. RN's wages are pretty high considering the education level..RN's do not have Bachelors degree. You can move easily and get a new job in almost any place, with a hospital.
You dont have to work in the cold outside. It is very stable work, as we arent running out of people needing health care.
You can help people and build a comraderie with coworkers. My wife has a good rapport and can change her hours, almost at will.
2. Disadvantages. People get sick 24/7/365 and my wife often works holidays. There are some politics even there, and many many regulations. In some nursing occupations your patients die..that is stressfull. Some people have trouble with the schooling and dont cut the grade. My wife works 12 hour shifts and there is a fair amount of stress, tho that depends on the hospital.
3. Conclusion. There is a shortage of nurses. Go for it.
