Nurse Career Options

Kenneth Said:

choosing career: WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABT BEING A NURSE AND WATS UR OPINION ON IT AS A CAREER OPTION?

We Answered:

I am a nurse, and for me it was the best choice because I love my job. The hours are long, I work 12 hour days or nights, most hospitals now are on 12 hour shifts, long days but we do 4 on and then 5 off, so the time off is great. The pay is good, I am in Canada and I make over 27.00 a hour, the benefits are great also, I get 3 weeks of vacation, 11 stats that I can use for vacation also. Then there is sick time, I get 18 sick days a year. The pension plan is good. There is no regualr work day for sure, everyday is different and there are so many different areas in nursing you can get into. I work rehab so we get mostly motor vehicle accidents (not wearing seatbelts), people learning to live from a sitting position verus before standing, or learning to walk again, learning to walk with or work with new artifical limbs, it is a very rewarding career. I like my field because we see people at their lowest when they come, and usually happy when they leave with what they have achieved. I use to work cardiac, that is way more intence, a lot of cardiac arrest, some you save and some you don't but very intence at times. It is a career where you are helping people, and this is such a diverse field that the options are endless. Surgery is a field I know a lot of nurses in, that is a lot of dressing changes, and some like that. Depends totally on you and if you do it, when you do your clinical rotations in school you will take to one field like a duck to water, and that is where you would proable choose to be. Good luck with it, don't think anyone would take you to work for a day, not legal I am sure because of patient confidentiality.
