Are accelerated college programs for high schoolers fair?We Answered:
It's completely unfair, and it doesn't really make ANY sense. I would understand it if those high school students had to take RN classes for the last 2 years of high school but to just give them a shortcut is really unfair. In Michigan, we have a shortage of nurses. At Henry Ford Community College, they have a program in which you complete a 2 year RN program and they actually pay for your school 100% as long as you pass. But you also have to give them 2 years working in their hospital. BUT thats also a guaranteed job, and good pay. So it's really a great deal. I guess that goes to show it all depends on where you live.
There are so many things which are unfair when it comes to college. At my school, I struggled to get up to a math level requiring Calculus. I took so many math classes and lowered my GPA by taking math classes which I struggled with. I finally finished the math requirement in the Fall, but then my school dropped that requirement and only requires Intermediate Algebra now. Also they changed the program to include 4 credit hour classes but the old program I'm on only uses 3 credit classes. So it took me several extra classes just to get enough credits. AND I can't switch to the new program because they ever so conveniently made slight changes to the types of classes I would need. (for example, instead of Political Science, they want American History...and for Biology, they want Earth Science and Basic Biology).
Anyways college is a rip off but to have a good future you almost definitely need it.
I have about 5 classes left for my Bachelors and done with my Associates :))) Yay

HEALTH CAREERS AND OPERATING ROOM DIRECTOR?We Answered:
This would seem to be incredibly rare, and one of the few instances I have heard of a person achieving this. It was probably the right mix of hospital size, and the location, this would not happen at most facilities in the US.While the director of an operating room is often more concerned with the business of running an operating room than the clinical aspects of the OR, they still need to have some level of clinical competence.
In the average OR in the US, the clinical service coordinators have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or often 5 or more years experience in the operating room. The Clinical Supervisors or Head Nurses usually have at least a BSN, though this may not always be the case, most have a minimum of 10 years OR experience, some much more.
Most Operating Room Directors, have a Masters Degree in either Nursing Administration, Hospital Administration, or frequently a Clinical specialization in OR coupled with an MBA.
The salary will vary by facility, but the average salary for a Director of Surgical Services in a major metro area is between $100k and $110K. I would have some level of skepticism about an inexperienced OR nurse, with no appreciable education exceeding the average, unless, nobody else would take the job.

Any suggestions for a midlife career change? We Answered:
One way to get a change of perspective and still build on skills you already have is to work in the pharmaceutical industry from the agency side - think of all the vendors you are using now and what they do - advertising, medical education, etc. Any of those appeal to you?Rhonda Said:
