Nursing Assistant Career

Mae Said:

what career pays more physical therapist assistant or nursing?

We Answered:

RNs typically are paid better than PTAs. However, this will depend on your setting and area of expertise. An RN's salary is more likely to be along the lines of a PT (as opposed to the PTA). Both RNs an PTs will have more potenital for growth and advancement as opposed to a PTA.

Mitchell Said:

What is a better career path, physician assistant or nursing?

We Answered:

Well, that's kind of like comparing apples to oranges.

Of course, a PA is going to have "more authority" than an RN (with an ASN or BSN), however, an RN that has a Masters and is a Nurse Practitioner is likely to be on "equal footing" with a PA. They have similar a similar job description....the biggest difference being that the RN was taught and practices in the "nursing model of care" and the PA was taught and practices in the "medical model of care".

While it's not impossible, it's not common to find RN's applying to a PA program. They usually matriculate into a Masters program and become Advanced Practice Nurses if they want to become a mid-level practitioner.

Generally, most PA's have an undergrad in Biology, Chemistry, or other sciences, or were Allied Health Professionals (such as a Respiratory Therapist, MRI Tech, Physical Therapist, Pharmacist, etc) prior to applying to the Masters-level PA program.

As far as pay, a PA is going to make more than an RN that is working as an RN. However, salary for a PA is in the same range as a Nurse Practitioner.

Clyde Said:

I got my nursing assistant diploma thur Stratford Career Institute and I wondered how to get my licence.?

We Answered:

Call Stratford. It may only be a diploma program and not able to give you your CNA "license." It is not really a license, but it is a certificate. Only professional nurses, LPN, LVN, RN, etc are licensed.

Jenny Said:

Where should I start for a future in the nursing career?

We Answered:

A retirement home would have more benefits most likely. Please don't forget that true compensation is not just your salary... it is your salary plus any benefits you may get from your job (like health insurance, etc.) When looking at jobs, don't just focus on the salary, focus on the whole package and do not be afraid to ask about other benefits since you do want to make an informed decision.

Joy Said:

whats a better career dental assistant or nursing assistant?

We Answered:

Dental Assistant

CNA's have a physically and mentally draining job, if you truly love patients, you might like CNA work, but you are feeding, bathing and changing adults.

Gail Said:

Nursing assistant a good way to start out a career as a r n? And other related questions.?

We Answered:

Yes, it will give you a taste of what you want to get into, but keep in mind it is a physically hard job, a lot of physical work. It will help you to be a better RN Supervisor, and will earn respect with nursing assistants, b/c they will know you have actually done the work they do. If you get a job as a nurse aide, a lot of employers have tuition reimbursement programs. Also employers will hire RN's and have a loan forgiveness program if you work for them for"x" amount of time. RN's have a lot of paperwork to do, computer work, it depends on where and what dept. you work how much "hands on" experience you will have with the patients.
